morboComplete Your Transaction join:2002-01-22 00000 | Dislike these types of plans I really dislike these types of cell phone plans. It needlessly complicates what should be simple: using a cell phone. Yes yes, I understand it 'adds value' ~violent shudder~ but the only plan that will get my attention is one that costs less overall, not these little games the big guys are playing. |

They save you money by letting you drop to lower plans. May not be useful for business users that call many different people, but for residential lines, MyFaves and A-List/Friends&Family save people money on their monthly bills. -- "What makes us omniscient? morboComplete Your Transaction join:2002-01-22 00000 | yes, seriously. I don't believe many people will be able to drop to a lower plan because of the limits of being on a plan--you must spend $60 a month individually or $80+ as a family to even qualify. sure, maybe a few, again, KISS policy says this is needlessly complicated. just lower the overall price a bit and people will be more inclined to upgrade to a plan with more minutes. |

That's the point This is a mechanism to entice uneducated consumers to spend more than they really need. A lot of people look at "unlimited calls to/from 10 people" and buy it hook, line, and sinker. They don't understand, or ignore the fact, that they'll end up paying more for the increased service tier to get the "free" calling than if they had just stayed within their existing tier. I looked at VZW's Friends and Family offering and it didn't make financial sense given my family's usage pattern. |

Actually... they're making more money by hoping that people will 'upgrade' to one of these more expensive plans. Since many data devices are now requiring data plans, you can think of the $59.99 personal + $40/month unlimited data/text as a $100 almost unlimited deal. Its good for those that want to talk A LOT, or not have to worry about overages. For the average person ($59/family plan), its the equivalent of $30/month extra, or the cost of my VoIP from TWC.
Like morbo has stated... I'd like something to keep my bill lower vs. adding more for a 'better value'. Eg. family 550/59.99 could go to : Family 300/$59.99 + A-list. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

I'm on a lower minute plan than what qualifies. I am on a 700 minute plan, and my minutes always roll over. I have minutes expiring.
What would I save by switching to a more expensive plan, when I can go to T-Mobile, spend slightly less, get 2x as many minutes and MyFaves (both of us on the plan only have a handful of people we call often).... and still have unlimited text messages on both phones and data on one of the phones...
You're telling me to spend more to save money... which makes no sense. I would not save money on this plan, I would spend more. I can get the same from T-Mobile for much less. |
