ctg1701aVIP join:2008-08-07 Philadelphia, PA | [DNS] Updated DNS tools on http://dns.comcast.net website Hello,
The Comcast DNS team has just rolled out what we hope will be some helpful tools for our customers which you can find here:
»dns.comcast.net.
The new DNS cache query tool will allow customers to run queries against not only our National Domain Helper cache servers but also the No Redirect caching servers as well. You can also run a custom query against other third party DNS servers.
We have also added a server status page as well as an overall DNS health icon to the main page so customers can verify the current health of our DNS caching platform. We plan on enhancing the functionality of this health page in the future.
As we roll out new features or announcements, we will post them to this website.
We hope that you find these tools useful, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks
Chris |

Anything that gets rolled out is going to be an aberration.
a DNS server should not help me a search for things. I shouldn't need to opt out of a DNS server breaking standard web protocol and answering instead of the host im actually trying to contact.
While I appreciate that things have changed a bit at corporate they are still missing the big picture and are looking for ways to continually monetize services that are not meant to be monetized in the first place. This isn't your fault, this is the marketing departments fault for having more control over engineerings sprint sessions than they should.
Thats why people use OpenDNS. It does its job and nothing else because thats what it is supposed to do. I personally use OpenDNS on top of TreeDNS that way I don't need to worry about BS and my frequent looksups are instantaneous. -- Forum Posts:7500 |

You are right, DNS is DNS, but getting servers that are closer to help CDNs perform better and adding additional capacity is something we can do to help. My team is doing a lot of very cool things that are coming together very soon. |

Thanks Chris Chris, I want to thank-you for posting this. It is very handy to be able to get information that is not "dumbed down" for the masses. Many of the users of BBR are techs, network engineers, or other technical professionals. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the presence that CC has made on these forums and the respect that has been shown to us that know a little more than the average users. I have been a customer of Comcast since you guys purchased the Insight assets in our area. The techs in Peru and the surrounding area have been great to work with and the service has rock solid with very few issues. Thanks to you and all on the CC team. Keep up the good work! | reply to ctg1701a Sweet! Finally got a DNS status page. All you guys need now is a matching Network Status page showing hubs and/or other major equipment so that the consumers can see in real time how well things are flowing or where there are temporary slowdowns, so that they could know if its an issue with them locally or if its a larger regional issue. In other words a network health page. Maybe show load levels in real time graphically in colors? |

1 edit | reply to backfeed I second this, Comcast has been the most reliable serivce i've ever had, even more then the electric company lol. Keep up the great work Chris, and Steve, and everyone who takes the time to help others out with their issues. |

 | reply to AVonGauss dont forget you can opt out simply by changing the DNS addresses in your router or PC using the addresses provided on that DNS page. |

It does a lot more than just DNS lookups. Have you ever used it?
I didn't see anything on the Comcast site except a bunch of links. |

I'll mention it to them and see if anything is in the works or if something like this is possible.

For people who just want basic DNS, opting out of Comcast redirect is probably easier (now; after their changes in their opt out system) than opting out of OpenDNS redirect. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
