Mine is 44 now. I think 48 or less is the target and mid 50's is when the connection starts getting flacky. |

| reply to veloct Upstream power just hit 53 dB and the speed dropped to:
I replaced the splitter and that didn't help. If I connect the incoming line from the street it goes down to 49dB.
Anyone working for metrocast know if the Motorola 484095-001-00 RF amplifier will help get signal where I need it to be and can I use it?
Thanks. |

Most amplifiers don't amplify the return signal, so it would be worse if your upstream is already 53. |

| Any problems found today around 5:00 PM? Upstream has dropped and is holding @ 47dBmV since then. I noticed the freq. has changed slightly too. Capacitance in the line will have different effects @ different frequencies. Much better than all weekend and during the day today @ 53-55dB resulting with bad packet loss pinging the very first hop.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have had very good luck with Eastern/Metrocast since back in the @home days.

| reply to veloct ^^ It's possible. We migrated all northern CT HSD customers to new equipment last week. Part of that is fine tuning signals to match the new hardware. I think we're mostly done with that now.
About the Motorola Amp: Even though it says it's two way it doesn't amplify your return signal it simply passes it. You would see some return loss from the connectors in the amp itself actually. Amps are mostly good for forward video. Typically you only need one if you have many TVs or pre-wired outlets. It's pretty rare to see forward signal problems to modems since we can control the forward signal very closely. The return signal is trickier. It can't really be controlled since we're only receiving the signal here not generating it. |

ptrowski Got Helix? Premium join:2005-03-14 Putnam, CT clubs: | Of course not. While docsis 3 would be nice that doesn't automatically mean that everything magically clears up. Plus $70 for 10/1 is very expensive. You want your bill to go even higher? |

| In the past customers have asked for more speed and few even said they did not care what it cost.
The speed whent up and so did the price and euipment that use to be free started to carry a rental fee.
Some would call that progress when your cable and Internet charges exceed your power bill! I call it a monopoly. |

| reply to chess I don't know the situation in MD but here in the North East companies like AT&T and Verizon only cherry pick highly profitable areas to deploy their higher speed services. They are not required to provide full coverage but cable operators are even if a certain area is unprofitable. That was the original rationale behind cable franchising back in the day. It has its pros and cons but I live in Northern CT and can't even get DSL much less U-Verse or FIOS. There's nothing stopping them from expanding coverage here but they choose not to because, I guess, they don't think they'll make enough money to justify it. Some of the new wireless stuff (LTE, WiMAX, etc) is going to be fantastic for rural areas in regards to broadband competition. |
