Re: [TWC] Super slow cable Internet - Woodside Queens

i'm on Verizon DSL, and pretty much stable and never a slow-down. I have the 7.1mbps package, and only time there's a problem if there is work in the area.

when i had road runner, that was un-stable not reliable at all.

I'm still having slow speeds and although the Level 3 techs confirm the item is still open, and it's been "referred to engineering" they do "not have an ETA for when it will be fixed." It sounds to me like they don't have an ETA for IF it will even be fixed.

They also said "when it's fixed, call back and we will credit your account" which is one thing but with this issue unresolved for weeks now it seems I will keep paying and paying and of course I will call for a credit, but I don't have faith it will EVER be fixed.

Meanwhile, I put in a complaint with the BBB and on this part of TWC's website:
»ir.timewarnercable.com/presidentContact.cfm

OH and don't bother switching to Verizon, they pulled the same kind of nonsense...as long as you got "some" service, they felt it was okay to give you slower than dial up speeds.

They do not care since they are in a monopoly situation. Their stance pretty much is, go to DSL or nothing at all. If you happen to have RCN available, there is another option for you, but there might be a good chance they do not service your building.

Forget Cablevision as it is obvious they have a handshake deal to stay off of each others "territory".

in your diagnostics page what is your frequency channel? if it's 297,303 , 315 you might want to buy docsis 3.0 modem some poeople confirmed that bonding 4 channels fixed their slow connection issues.

This morning I heard back from someone at the link I posted the other day; now they claim that someone from their office told me on 10/16 that an upgrade was planned for the first week of November. Yes, someone did call me on 10/16, but no, that is not what she said--what she said was a lot of nonspecifics about "looking into it."

Pat--will check into modem you suggested, but will first wait to see about this supposed upgrade.

Stay on it, folks, because when we let them get away with it, they see that they can get away with it--all too frequent in our zip code.

Why should we have to buy a modem? They should take care of this issue.

In any case, those of you that say you've bough the modem, has it worked?

Also, how do we see the diagnostics page?

I just send them a message on that link too:

I have an open ticket with TWC now for months. Ticket number is 107250, apparently with engineering.

Up to this point the issue is still open, no eta on the solution, and no resolution since a few months to rectify the situation.

I opened up a ticket months ago, and then it was closed "as resolved, but the problem was never fixed, then I have to repeat the whole process again, and here I am, months later again, with no fix.

I'm paying for broadband internet and I am getting "dialup speeds".

I have an open forum on dslreports about this issue, and many other users are complaining about the same problem.

We know it's bandwidth, we know nodes need to be split, some of us are technicians. So why hasn't this been fixed for months? Why don't you guys compensate us, for we are paying you, and not getting what we paid for?

I expect credits to my account for all these months of useless internet service, but more importantly I'd like the issue fixed.

As it stands there is an entire community online, that is fully prepared to abandon time warner forever when fios comes around.

Don't you see the commercials? I saw one where people were claiming to leave "fios" to return to time warner... Are you kidding? Fix this guys, or I promise you, this monopoly you have will crumble, and you will lose many loyal customers....

ISP Oversubscribing, how does this affect me?

The backbone of the Internet is connected networks of high capacity communication lines. A dedicated connection to the Internet backbone that operates all the time, at the full capacity of the connection technology, is extremely expensive. Since end users rarely require 100% of the available bandwidth all the time, ISPs will purchase these expensive dedicated connections and use them to run multiple connections of various sizes to their end users. This is called "over-subscribing", and is a technique used by the Internet Service Provider Industry to realize a profit margin when providing dedicated connectivity to consumer users. Over-subscription is usually based on a bandwidth ratio and typically ranges from 4:1 to 20:1 depending on the service being provided. Over-subscription may actually occur several times before it reaches the end user.

Internet providers are measured in "Tiers". A Tier 1 provider maintains their own national network and provides their customers a 1:1 bandwidth ratio. The major Tier 1 service providers are in a "peer" relationship allowing traffic from users on separate networks to communicate seamlessly. As you move down in Tier levels of providers you encounter over-subscription rates at a higher degree as the ISP's resell the bandwidth from a higher Tier. The lower tiered ISP's have to have some sort of limit in place for their non-committed or consumer dedicated product or there would be no economical way they could provide service to thousands of end users.

Some companies require a guaranteed minimum bandwidth and pay for that at a premium. For instance a 2mb/s (Megabits per second) DSL connection may cost $500 a month while a Fractional T3 with a committed bandwidth of 2mb/s will likely cost over $2000 a month. While that 2mb/s DSL line is capable of operating at 2mb/s, if all the DSL users of that ISP were downloading at once everyone's connection would slow down. This is often observed with residential connections at "peak hours" like the early evening, also referred to as the "Internet rush hour".

Your ISP isn't selling you a connection to the Internet per se, they are selling you a connection to their network that is connected to the network of their provider and so on. This continues up to the top Tier 1 networks that are connected to each other. All these networks and servers and end users' computers together make up the Internet.

Are you guys on facebook? Twitter? Myspace? Etc?

Spread the word guys. Post a link to this forum on your social community websites, let's get this out there.

They can't get away with it if they community speaks out.

Let's create a movement to take these people down, make them pay! I'm looking at a notice that they will kill my connection on the 30th of this month if I don't pay, I will pay, but I'll pay it later, cause frankly, I don't feel like it.

I have been paying on time for months, now I don't feel like it... WTF? They riding me about paying when I don't get service for months? F YOU.

I swear, the minute and option comes along, they are f*cked...

I'm so frustrated about this...

Letter to the VIP customer relations group.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am inaccessible during the day as I am currently in deliberations as a juror.

But in short, I have been experiencing super slow unacceptable browsing speeds, I can't play any of my online games, I can't download data, I cannot work from home, I can't even watch youtube. It's as bad as dialup. My son asked me "daddy how come youtube is pausing so much".... Even he notices..

I have opened up this issue two times, the first time it was closed with no solution, this time I've been actively staying on top of it so it doesn't get closed on me.

We know the issue is bandwidth in our area, it's in engineering, but it's beens months, and months without a fix.

I am paying you guys for a certain service and I am not receiving it. In the past I had my account credited for the months of subpar service (that made me feel at least I get some sort of return on my payments), however now I am being told that I will be credited once the issue is resolved.

Simply I feel this is just unfair. I have a payment to make, and my card apparently was entered wrong, so I need to manually log in to do it, I grit my teeth at the thought of logging on, using this slow connection to pay you guys more money.

It's crazy to me. We know the issue, why hasn't it been fixed? I feel that since in this area it's only twc and verizon that you guys have a monopoly, and you don't give us value because we are pretty much stuck.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, for that is not my intention, simply I am very frustrated after months of being unable to use the internet service that I pay for.

I'd like something to be done to rectify this situation. Credit my account, fix the problem, send me a gift card? I don't care, just something to right the wrongs here.

Google "slow internet woodside" and tell me what you see. The community is noticing and speaking up, we wish to be helped. I'm sure you agree months with this issue is simply unacceptable.

Thank you for contacting me, and I hope you are in a position to actually do something about this abuse that this company has visited upon it's loyal long standing customers....

Tks, Angel...

This week a Ms. Rickenbacker called me and left a message on my answering machine to say that engineering would be working on this sometime in the first two weeks of November.

This message came a day after their executive customer support person emailed me to say it would be worked on in the first week of November.

Last weekend at around 2 AM I got a sales rep to upgrade me to the option that provides "up to 15 MB download." So now I get 2 MB! MAYBE 3 if I am lucky. This option was added free for a year.

They must think we are stupid that we don't even notice when they don't have their story straight. I also deeply resent that they think they can do this in the Woodside/Sunnyside zip code.

I am on Twitter and Facebook and am mentioning this every chance I get.

Not to get political but we're about to get a new City Council rep. Although this isn't quite a city-controlled issue, I've already told him about this and my belief that our utility companies seem to think it is okay to provide shoddy service in western Queens.
