All you have to do is run Live Update on your current version and reboot...and a long reboot it is (wait for the orange screen to pass). |

....reboot at the upgrade installer error message. It will then complete the upgrade. |

2 edits | reply to DSL_Steve For some products, when you run the upgrade installer, you will receive the error message "The current product must be updated before this upgrade is installed..."
At this point, run Live Update on your current product and reboot.
During the boot process, the upgrade will be installed...and a long reboot it is (wait for the orange screen to pass). |

The 1st PC installed just like you said with no problems... The other two, NIS 2009, will not install the '10's... I run live update on the '09's - reboot- and try and install the '10's but again I keep on getting -> error... With the same directions, run 'Live Update until it says there are none left'... and again and again the same problem... I tried live chat and that's not working... Too bad I just ran a full scan and '10 found 14 tracking cookies, usually something '09 hardly ever found... I have a feeling the problem is with Norton, it just doesn't make sense that two PCs one XP and One Vista are having the same problem... again, ty for your help... |

1 edit | reply to DSL_Steve I took the plunge today and installed it. No issues here. I didn't lose any of my "subscription time" either.
As for kcazzie's problem - Error: "The current product must be updated before this upgrade is installed..." - I wonder if you need to renew your subscription first. I'd renewed mine a couple weeks ago, so had over a year to go. |

But they wouldn't do that, they would just stop the updating and that's, that... It will get fixed, I'm sure I'm not the only one... I bet in a few days they will have a fix... At least I hope...!!!...
Everyone have a wonderful weekend and if you get a good idea or hear of one, it would be appreciated... |

 | Odd... Which version do you have? 16.7, or 16.5? (Click "Help and Support" and go to "About.") |

kcazzieOne Of Jerry's KidsPremium join:2000-08-13 Morton Grove, IL 1 edit | reply to DSL_Steve Went to support and they told me to uninstall '09 (using the uninstall tool) and install '10... and it worked just fine... Maybe before I didn't make myself clear I was getting errors, not just run update, reboot etc.
Again it looks like whenever you have a problem with Norton just uninstall and reinstall ... It has seemed to worked every time I had problems... But then again it's a small sample...!... ... |

GravyeyesPremium join:2003-07-29 Hyattsville, MD | reply to DSL_Steve There is an ongoing problem with the NIS 2010 upgrade. If your 2009 version has not updated from v16.5.0.135 to V16.7.2.11 the upgrade will hang (click help & support then about to check the version number).
Symantec has been pushing v16.7.2.11 in NIS 2009 again to avoid this problem. Reboot and run liveupdate as soon as your computer comes back up; check to see if version has changed to 16.7.2.11. If it has , than you can install the 2010 upgrade overtop NIS 2009 without problems.
If you still have v16.5.0.135 in NIS 2009, or any other version of Norton Internet Security, than run the norton uninstall utility (twice to be safe) and then run the 2010 install.
I am up and running with NIS 2010 on three computers.. |

kcazzieOne Of Jerry's KidsPremium join:2000-08-13 Morton Grove, IL 2 edits | That's what Symantec had me do, just didn't tell me why... Thanks for explaining the problem...
Edit; Once you use Norton uninstall utility - Just reboot and your new Norton NIS 2010 is waiting for you to click, install... Norton/Symantec coudn't have made it any easier for us...
They just should have explained what the problem is etc. ...!... (maybe they have by now at their site)... Because it's a real easy fix... |
