When satellite TV was still in its infancy, cable (which at the time was BY FAR the dominant player) went to the program providers and said: "If you sign up with satellite, we'll drop you from cable". Congress and the FCC got involved and we now have the vibrant competition that cable tried to never allow happen.
Now cable is getting its collective ASS kicked by satellite (mainly because their prices are high and their service sucks), and now they have their hand out to the govt. for THEIR bailout.
Cable already has an exclusive with public access. I can't get the local public access on satellite.
Sunday Ticket has NOTHING TO DO with anything. To say it does is like complaining that 24 is only on Fox. They were the highest bidder for that program and that's that. It's not like the NFL told cable that they couldn't have Sunday Ticket. It went out to bid on a level playing field-EVERYONE had the right to bit (and did)-and cable was outbid! It's not like Cablevision, or NESN, where the cableco owns the channel and REFUSES to allow it on satellite at any price. Now THAT's collusion!
