| Bell, YOU SUCK
I joyfully cancelled Bell Internet effective August 18th, the same day my contract expired. I gave Bell more than 30 days notice.
said by Excerpt of transcript of cancellation request July 17th via online Bell.ca chat :
You: Please confirm that the service will be cancelled on August 18. Agent P******* (***-******): Yes, absolutely. Got my Bell bill via email this evening. I'm not really surprised to see that despite following all the rituals outlined in the contract, that I'm being billed $100 for "Termination Internet Service" because the rep set the cancellation date for August 17th instead. Now I have to fight to get this mess fixed. F.U. very much, Bell. Fortunately I have a transcript of the entire conversation, so please take that Bell, and shove it where the sun don't shine.
Bell, I cannot state in words how much YOU SUCK!

| I've posted a couple times how there seems to be some type of fraud, theft, larceny, racketeering, swindling divine intervention going on at Bell in the billing software. It seems that their modus operandi is to bill everyone and then say oops to the ones that complain and even spot it. The ones that don't make up the only profit BCE is showing now. It's a numbers game and Bell is the house. If this were the US the States Attorney General would be on this like flies on shit. Guaranteed shot to the Governor's mansion. Of course being Canada, and us being a bunch of spineless sheep, our regulatory bodies will just say squat as long as they get their taste if the form of taxes. |

| The Ontario Ministry of Government Services Consumer Protection shoudl be all over this ... but no, they'll pass it on to the Competition Bureau ... the Competition Bureau will say "not us" and pass it on to the CRTC. The CRTC will say not a foreborne matter, and pass it on to the CCTS, who'll wave a wet noodle at Bell at absolute best. You'll probably get your $100 back, but hey.
You might have better luck in Small Claims court ... but it will be such a small claim that it won't rattle an eyelid at Bell.
Bottom line is our governments are not protecting consumers at all! |

| reply to sbrook The BBB would be better than if he can't get it resolved take it to small claims. I highly doubt they want to go to small claims count. It would be a waste of time for Bell lawyers. If they lose they would have to pay the filing fee, last time I checked it was around $85 could be higher now. |

| reply to sbrook said by sbrook :Bottom line is our governments are not protecting consumers at all! At least this is one place where Quebec may be doing something with the new consumer protection law amendment that seeks to ban termination penalties.
This is a really nice change since it will force service providers to use more transparent pricing: instead of burying the cost of a $350 "free" phone into the service plan with a three years contract and arbitrary cancellation charges, companies will have to advertise the phone as a $350 loan amortized over whatever service agreement period you sign up for and your "cancellation fee" would then simply be the balance of your phone+activation loan. |

| That would be stunning. A real level playing field where the customer would be able to see what charges and obligations were really being applied to their contract?
My first reaction is that it will never happen, but if it does that would be wonderful!! -- Tough Broadband for a Tough Crowd! GorillaNET.ca - 10Mbits to your desk, coming soon. |

1 edit | reply to MacGyver When I canceled, I asked for a cancellation number and for that to be emailed to me. The employee on the other end said they couldn't email. I insisted to get it in writing otherwise I'de just keep calling back until it was confirmed. Finally the supervisor sent an email to confirm.
It's unfortunate that this happened to you. Many people I've tried to get off of Bell's services always say the reason they don't leave the service is because of cancellation fees that they might get charged.
Hopefully you can get this sorted, but the entire forum is filled with people that have had the exact same problem. |

Here's the text: »www.blakes.com/english/view.asp?ID=3248 quote: Penal clauses Bill 60 amends section 13 of the CPA to clearly provide that penal clauses (i.e., stipulations requiring consumers to pay costs other than interest accrued upon non-performance of an obligation) are prohibited. The current version of section 13 had been interpreted by Quebec courts to allow the use of penal clauses in consumer contracts. Bill 60 therefore amends section 13 of the CPA to restore the original legislative intent by prohibiting penal clauses. The current and amended versions of section 13 do not apply to credit contracts.
(my italics)
Without the ability to charge penal (termination) fees, companies will have little choice but to itemize these costs so they can be converted into some sort of up-front cost/loan... or risk losing them.
Common sense at work is a rare sight in "La Belle Province". |

Bell does not belong nor cares about the BBB.They have hundreds of outstanding things and they just dont care. They take thier 1% churn and put out more ads.2010 could see a difference thou with all the anti bell and crtc stuff starting to hit main stream news they may lose more.I can only hope |

1 edit | reply to MacGyver bell tried the same crap with me when I canceled, gave them 30 days notice. My 1 year term ending date magically was extended a week past what it was supposed to be.
Boom, 100$ early termination charge on my next phone bill.
I called and made it quite clear to the CSR on the phone that there was no way in hell I was going to pay it.
She then spoke to her supervisor, and told me I only had to pay my regular amount for my telephone service.
So I did that, and next bill came in with a 100$ credit (thus making my bill 0$, and not negative) , last i've heard of it.
Good luck. |
