[DSL] Ask advice about Thomson Speedtouch 585i and 784i

ADSL -ISDN Annex B
Provider: KPN Netherlands

I consider to buy a new modem/router, reason is that the current one, a Draytek/Vigor, have major problems to coop with low SNR margins.

After some investigation it seem that the Thomson Speedtouch 585i handle very well low SNR margins so I consider to buy this one. I also noticed there is a Thomson Speedtouch 784i, this modem attract me too because it have more features than the 585i. Problem: I can't find any info how this modem deal with low SNR margins.

Anyone that can give me info and advice which of the 2 modems/routers to buy?

TIA!

The first thing I'd check out is to see if both units are using the same exact ADSL Chip Set or Not. That is usually a quick way to tell if the performance is going to be similar or different.

Doctor txs for replying. I tried to find out what you say but only datasheets full of specs but regrettably without mentioning the ADSL Chip Set...

Now I am a bit confused. Found some new info: TG585i: BCM6338 ADSL2+ and TG784i: BCM6358 ADSL2+

I am not a Chip Set expert so how do these Chip Sets coop with low SNR margins?
