Dish Vs Direct TV [getting fed up with Dish DVR]

I am reaching the end of my rope. I am a long time customer of Dish network, we have been using them since '94.
About a year after moving to Ohio, we decided to get the dual tuner/DVR package.
The first tuner lasted about 2 years, the last year we had to do a lot of resets by turning the unit off.
Now the second DVR starting to act up. Like right now, Tuner one is getting local channels, tuner 2 says "you can watch non-local programing" when we try to watch local programs [The message doesn't appear all the time, but it seems to be popping up more and more].

Ok my question is this:

Does Direct TV have better Dual Tuner DVrs?

A bit over a year ago, I moved from Dish to DirecTV. I had Dish DVR 508's, which are single tuner SD DVR's. My new DirecTV DVR's are HD / SD tuners and support an external HD.

Overall, I think Dish has a decent DVR. My complaint was about cost, and overall customer service for HD.

Dish had a higher charge for DVR and HD than DirecTV.

I don't think DirecTV does the 2 rooms share a DVR thing, instead you'll need 2 DVR's. I've got 4 of HD21's, and am very happy with them.

To compare DirecTV against Dish, compare a 2 DVR DirecTV solution to your current shared DVR.

DirecTV DVR's benefit greatly (at least the HD DVR's do) by having ethernet (wired) available to them. There are thousands of free programs you can download to your DVR via internet.

Which DVR do you have? I have a 722 since January that i've had no issues with.

Before that I had a 522 that lasted for 4-5 years. (Then died in a move)

Personally I find the Dish software to be more user-friendly than the DirecTV units, and the 2-room DVR is also very helpful, but that's only my opinion.

The Dish 722 also has an ethernet connection and there is tons of content that can be downloaded for free. Some of the downloadable content is for a fee, but I think the majority is free.

Is this the error that your getting? if it is it could be a bad separator piece of cable Milty switch or lnb. I am leaning toward a bad separator. Try to change out the separator bottom picture.

If you get that message the problem isn't on your end, that would be an issue where Dish isn't receiving the signal from the local TV Station.

The repair tech came out. He found a substandard cable was being used, He replaced that and the LNB on the dish.
It has been working fine since then.
The odd thing is we had the same problem a year ago. The company that came out then, just swapped units and nothing else. When I called them, they told me that Dish no longer allowed them to support Dish products.. I wonder why?
The guy that came out this time was with a different company. He spotted the problem not even a minute on site.

Look at your screen name and you are asking that question???

So someone did a BAD install but as they are REMOTE sub contractors you are particulary blaming DISH for that. (DTV does the same sub contractor BS thing) And you never watched them or educated yourself of what was needed?

That's like buy a car an no thought it might need spark plugs.

And maybe you think this is SILLY.... how about this Honda stuff floormat jammed acceerator stuff... before you 120mph die turning off the ignition vs calling 911 screaming we are going to die NEVER dawns on you????? And ends up you take out your entire family for NOT rthinkinking of that simple thing?

And likely family will be filing a huge lawsuit for the just beimng stupid enough to not JUST mturn off the ignition.... maybe even courstr win a real scarry another IDIOT thing we all end up paying for..

And even suddenly you are a hazzard just trurn the ignition on and off as needed until you can get off active raodway. This is NOT ROCKET SCIENTRY.... just sadly UNcommon sense.

And sorry don't mean this personally but same sort of stuff.

And again not meant aimed at you personally... just said somany can see the SIMPLE SOLLUTION out of the situation they are in....

Or your case just this needs to be fixed the installer screwed up.... but you also need to have a little sense to tell the TS person what is actually is likely WRONG.... again that take a LITTLE lnowledge/work? of what you are dealing with.

I have dealt with BOTH DISH and DTV and especially if you can rationionally tell them what likely is wrong vs screaming at them.... likely in short order fixed.

Again its an antenna, receiver, and some cable.... not ROCKET SCIENTRY.

And honestly the 911 operator was a morno too... why didn't he just IMMEDIATELY say just turn your ignition off???

Guess there are just Bozo's everywhere. Again sadly working for DISH and DTV but DEADLY working for 911 too

All I know is that when we moved into our gouse, the sat install company was there with a mini dish [marked Dish] and a receiver.

It may have been 96.. All I know is that we have been a long time customer.

Ask bouncing off Ophrah couches Tom Cruise.

Suppose it should have been sciencetry (If that is not right again spell chek should have caught it but didn't.

Just as after one edit did not catch chek vs check I intentionally left.

Try it yourself maybe something unique to Firefox vs Exploder but it does happen.

I have had Directv for about 8 years now and got HD programming in April this year. They hooked me up with the HR23 and I have been very, very happy overall with the HD/DVR service and equipment. Now this is my first DVR, but I have not had any problems or glitches with it.

I called the normal sat service company to look at our system. He said dish had dropped him. So I called dish, they sent out another company. The guy was here 5 minutes and saw we had the wrong cable on our DVR, He swaped that out and the "lens" in the dish. The system has been working great since then which was about a month ago.

I recently switched from Direct TV one month ago. Big mistake.
Their service is CRAP, their equipment is unreliable (i.e. CRAP – two faulty HD DVR’s in two weeks), their phone system is CRAP, and there is no satisfaction guarantee at all!
I could terminate contract - at a penalty of over $300!!
I'm stuck with Dish TV for 23 more months.
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

TehTeh

That's funny. I just made the switch from DirecTV and couldn't be happier!
In my opinion DirecTV's DVR blows major chunks. SLOW and lock up a lot.
Plus if you want to upgrade or just even replace a DVR they automatically sign you into a new two year contract. F THAT!

Dish on the other hand will NOT lock you into another contract if a DVR goes bad.

Again if you want sports and like getting ripped off go with DirecTV if you want HBO and cheaper go Dish.

I will go to dish tv for this because i do not think that direct tv will provide this kind of better technology.
