That works fine for me out of Phoenix 12 meg service. I have Qwest DNS servers first then level3 as fail over. |

| reply to FenixSucks I just upgraded to the 7meg DSL package (which is turning out to be anything but) and am experiencing the same Youtube problems. I have yet to find a video that I can watch without having to pause it first to buffer, which isn't surprising considering that my bandwidth meter peaks at about 650kbps for all Youtube vids. Something is definitely wrong. I got better performance under the 1.5meg tier. |

1 edit | reply to nonymous How do I change my DNS server? I have Qwest with MSN package and as an end user, I have the equipment connected properly and when I can access YouTube just fine with Comcast, but not with Qwest, then, I consider that a Qwest problem.
That particular spoiled girl video loads now, but the general slowness with YouTube and some videos not loading at all despite repeated reloading remains at large. |

1 edit | reply to FenixSucks It's not doing any better and it looks like I'm not alone with this issue, unsurprisingly.
Qwest needs to get this straightened out in the next few days, as I'm going to cancel the service if it doesn't or at the very least switch to a less expensive 1Mbit plan.
7Mbit is absolutely useless to me over 1Mbps when I can't enjoy YouTube.
As of now, this one doesn't work. Switch over to Comcast connection and it works.
Maybe it isn't specifically "Qwest" issue, but using a different provider showed that it isn't my computer or me that is the problem. Any network issue uplink of my DSL modem is their problem.
I really don't know what I can do, other than ditch 'em, when multiple tech support agent's best answer is "your line is fine, nobody else complained, DNS looks to be in working order, we don't filter services and I'm not sure what you can do".

This one works fine on my Qwest though: »www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Ntu7Aapys
This is consistent with a few other complaints. Some videos just do not work. |

Any network issue uplink of my DSL modem is their problem. Not really. No provider is responsible for what happens outside their own network. An ISP can't solve every problem on every network on the Internet.
Things like this happen all the time, affecting subscribers of different providers differently. Today, Qwest customers might have trouble with youtube; the next month Comcast subscribers might have the same issue. That doesn't imply that the problem is necessarily with Qwest or Comcast at all- it could be with youtube's own provider or a carrier between. |

The 2 videos you posted as having problems with wont load for me either.
I think Qwest routes its Salem customers through Portland, so maybe there is a problem at their Portland POP? |

No problems here in Minneapolis.
Since google has about 10,000 servers I am wondering if this is a luck of the draw with the route to the locations that are coming back from DNS...and all ISPs route through different areas and use different carriers
Is there a way for someone to find the end server from 1 broadband company and another one with no issues on the same video to prove that out |

said by senator_wyden@wyden.senate.gov :
Dear Mr. Swartz:
Thank you for contacting me with your support for net neutrality. I appreciate hearing from you.
You may be interested to know that in the 109th Congress, I introduced S. 2360, the Internet Nondiscrimination Act of 2006. This legislation would have protected network neutrality by prohibiting network operators from charging companies for faster delivery of their content to consumers over the Internet or favoring certain content over others. It also would have made certain that consumers are allowed to choose which devices they use to connect to the Internet. However, it still would have ensured that network operators can continue to protect subscribers against unwanted spam, spyware, viruses, pornography and other nefarious content. Unfortunately, this legislation was not acted upon before the 109th Congress adjourned. I intend to reintroduce similar legislation in this Congress.
In the 109th Congress, many of my colleagues sought to make telecommunications reforms that would update our laws to account for modern technologies and environments. Unfortunately, the major reform legislation, H.R. 5252, that Senate leadership supported did not include strong network neutrality protections into law. Because I believe that no reform legislation should pass without these protections, I placed a procedural hold on the bill. This hold informed my colleagues of my intent to filibuster the legislation if it came to the Senate floor for consideration. I am pleased to inform you that this hold was a success, and the 109th Congress ended without the Senate passing telecommunications legislation that did not include strong net neutrality protections.
It may also please you to know that I am an original cosponsor to the Internet Freedom Preservation Act, S. 215. This legislation would protect network neutrality by defining precisely what network neutrality is and what actions are considered a breach of network neutrality. Currently, this legislation has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation where it awaits further action.
Please be assured, as the 110th Congress considers telecommunications reforms, I will keep your views in mind. Again, thank you for keeping me apprised of issues that are important to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I may be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Ron Wyden United States Senator I'm more than sure i"m on the salem/portland server over here on the other side of the mountains.
I've been having issues, but I thought it was only happening on FF, but I didn't really test it but once, but yeah It was ridiculously aggravating...
And as stated,,,, isn't it illegal for them to throttle sites? or at least here in oregon..
eh I guess it says it's awaiting further action... but yeah BS freakin figure it out already and pass that Act |

2 edits | Wow... STILL not fixed. That's SPIRIT OF SERVICE right there. Full of fail.
When I come across videos that do not load:
Things that I tried and outcome
1.) Reload = No (on whatever DNS used by Qwest)
2.) Using OpenDNS with Qwest = No
3.) Switching the same laptop to another access pt servec by Comcast = Yes
4.) Rebooting wireless DSL = no
5.) Calling Qwest for assitance = no
6.) Waiting out a few days = been a few days, still Qwest + YouTube + my area = fails. |

It's not surprising to see you're in Portland. I'm located in Bend, OR. And doing a reverse look-up on youtube takes me through ptld.qwest.net as well.
I called them about this issue several days ago but the lady I talked with seemed to be reading her responses off cards and didn't provide any useful information or help. |

4 edits | reply to FenixSucks I have found there is some issues with the Q1000 modem accessing some kinds of streaming content (youTube works fine, but other conference type sites don't) even with the firewall off.
It only affects it using wireless though . . .if you plug in directly to the modem using a ethernet cable ... it fixes the problem. It simply won't play some streaming content at all over wireless.
If you are however able to view only some of the videos in youTUBE, I don't think the problem is Qwest or your hardware. |

^it worked once five minutes ago. Went back to it and it is stalling now.
How do I do a trace route on a specific YouTube video URL?
YouTube in itself works, but depends on the video, with no particular pattern. |
