| reply to stillrunnin I think the biggest difference now between the 2 teams is the O-line. Ravens have used the draft to build the unglamorous position(s), and it is paying off with QB protection and RB holes.
Skins appear to be patchworking it together, and while it is adequate, it is no where near being able to carry a team to the next level.
Gaither, a 5th round supplemental who would have been a 1st or 2nd the next year. Grubbs #1 Chester #2 Yanda #3 Oher #1 Jason Brown #4 lost to free agency replaced by Birk (Vikings #6 but pro bowls) Adam Terry now on IR #2 Oniel Cousins #3 David Hale #4 Tony Moll (trade GB #5)
And the Skins? lets see Batiste UDFA Dockery #3 lost and had to get back Heyer UDFA Montgomery UFA (Carolina 2006 #7) Rabach UFA (Ravens 2001 #3) Rinehart #3 Thomas UFA (jets 1999 #2) Mike Williams UFA (Buffalo 2002 #1) Samuels #1 2000 Edwin Williams UDFA Plus Robinson UDFA on practice squad
Thats 5 UFA (unrestricted free agents read that other people's expensive casts offs) and 4 UDFA (undrafted free agents)
Now I'm not knocking the Skins OL, but elite teams have elite lines. You can use FA to fill a hole but you can't build greatness the way the Skins have approached it.
Ravens have spend high draft picks getting that line assembled. I'm sure if Campbell had some of the time that Flacco had this last game, he would look like a much better QB.
Building an OL isn't the splashy headline grabbing feel good job, it is the necessary dirty work. Ravens have done it, Skins haven't. We saw the results last year, and I don't think this year is going to be much different. -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. Bleah |

| So true, especially for a quarterback that tends to hang on to the ball a little longer.
I believe that the 91 offensive unit was the best in their history. That's a long time ago but the quality of the O line made such a huge difference for Rypien as well as the running game. -- Team Discovery |

| Yep, that '91 was something else
Still had 2 UDFA from 81? namely Jacoby and Bostic. Jake was the home run that few teams ever come close to finding. 81? had May #1, Grimm #3. By 91 we had another #1 Lachey (trade) and had added Schlereth (Rollie MacKenzie).
We can't talk about those teams and their accomplishments without giving a lot of credit to the OL. Currently have an OL that makes us a .500 team (more or less). Lot of look good window dressing with a shakey foundation. -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. Bleah |

| That shaky foundation should come together with time. Those guys, probably more than any other unit on a team, really have to know what each other is doing and the only way that happens is to play together.
We will see.... -- Team Discovery |

| reply to stillrunnin How is the Ravens set up on depth? That's the one area that I would be concerned with for that particular team. They are doing real good both offensively and defensively this year. This Sunday should be a good game though I hope the Pats win.
I think the other key thing for the Ravens is going to be staying healthy. I think if they have any injuries this year it's really going to effect them. -- »www.jrslaterphotography.com/

| Ravens depth has traditionally been a strength of the team. They just traded a LB (Prescott Burgess) who was buried on the depth chart, and still have their 2009 #2 pick (Paul Kruger) who has not been active for any game yet.
They are carrying 7 Defensive linemen for a 3-4, but if they cut the 7th (Kelly Talavou) he will be grabbed by someone immediately.
Running back they cut and lost Cedric Peerman who they drafted out of Virginia. Jalen Parmale and Matt Lawrence are the backups behind the 3 headed monster.
Offensive line is extremely versitile. Most can play multiple positions... Chester G-C, Oher RT-LT, back-up of Yanda T-G, former draft picks Cousins and Hale, plus traded a DB at the end of pre-season for Tony Moll from G.B.
They are thin at WR, only carrying 4, but Demetrius Williams has not played yet this year. The three headed monster (Rice-McGahee-McClain) can all catch, as can TE Heap (and LJ Smith from Philly).
Safety is deep and strong.
Cornerback is iffy, but that is true for practically every team once you get past the starters. Ravens do have Ladarius Webb (3rd round 2009) and Chris Carr/Frank Walker along with the possibility of Samari Rolle coming off the PUP list after week 6.
No one wants to see injuries, but they have some pretty nice depth including several on the Practice Squad with some experience. Their first 2 "reserve" LBs would probably start on a lot of teams (Antwan Barnes, Jameel McClain) Brendan Ayanbadajo is getting a bunch of snaps with the Defense as a coverage LB. -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me.
