If you rent the modem, and DOCSIS 3.0 comes to your town.... swapping the modem is free. If it breaks, even if it is your own fault by spilling a drink all over it..... replacement is free.
It's give or take I suppose.... $5 a month nets you $60 a year, and if you buy a $80 DOCSIS 3.0 modem that is going to last 3 years you have made your money.
Prices on a SB6120, a Docsis 3 CM, run from $75 to about $100 at many online stores. Plus the cost of shipping and taxes in some states.
