Re: Massive Slowdowns? Well, I spoke too soon. What a difference a few hours can make, from 8 megabit to 1, and from a "B" to a "D" ping rating:

1 edit | Bresnan always claims their standard service is something like 5x faster than 1.5Mb/s DSL in their commercials...I have their 15Mb/s tier and can barely achieve that of 1.5Mb/s DSL at night. They may fix it temporarily but they either keep oversubscribing nodes, backhauls, uplinks out to the internet, or the whole works or they just don't know how to manage what they already have so they bring their own network to it's knees.
 |
|
1 edit | Thought I would post this to show what a slap in the face this is...I can get nearly 16Mb/s to Billings but can't even achieve 1.5Mb/s out to the internet. Even if their off network speeds peaked at 13Mb/s I would be a happy camper...the full 15Mb/s package would be icing on the cake at that point.

Every day that passes, I am inching closer to DSL. But I may try and score a few more free months of internet first.
btw: it's 945pm and I am trying to stream the daily show...I can watch about 10 seconds of video before it starts buffering again. -- Whats smells like blue? |

 | reply to bigburd This time it looks like the blame is squarely on 360. If enough people bypass bresnan and complain directly to 360, it might be enough to at leat get them to look at it. Copy your tracerts and email them to customer.service@360networks.com and call their Butte MT office at 406.496.6500 |
|
 | Not necessarily...Remember Bresnan has the other end of that link so it could still be Bresnan's router(s) queuing traffic or failing. |

We don't even pay them, Bresnan does. The only way to get this done is to complain to Bresnan, who in turn should complain to 360. -- Whats smells like blue? |

1 edit | reply to koolkid1563 So here is what I am going to do. I wrote a script on my router and am about to get it set to run every 30 minutes which will run a traceroute to a few locations. It will output to a txt file (one for each location) on my flashdrive with a timestamp before each trace (each time it runs it appends a blank line, the timestamp, then the trace to the txt file)...We shall see since I was asked by their tech support for more traces but with the time of each...Just automated it a little
The flash drive is plugged into one of my router's USB ports and is shared on the network so I can 'check up' on it every now and then. |

 | reply to bigburd Thank goodness I didn't opt for Bresnan's "Slow Speed Internet" package. I wonder if the city council would look into getting high speed internet piped into Buffalo for us?

 | [BQUOTE= koolkid1563 get quite a kick out of their commercials that say their internet is so many times faster than 1.5Mb/s DSL... I have not seen that commercial on our local cable for well over a month, I think. Perhaps Bresnan was advised not to advertise their "high speed internet" as they weren't providing it?
I've got over four years of pain invested in being a Bresnan Customer and kind of stick around to see if I'll ever see the speed that was promised to me and for which I've been paying for since I signed up. And sometimes my service runs as high as 2,500-3,000 which is faster than DSL. Actually, I probably average around 1200 but I just ran a test and came up with 126 kbps. |

 | This isn't even peak time yet and I am already getting crappy service. I think I am going to call and ask for some sort of credit...less than 1/15th of the speed I should be getting is a little ridiculous. I understand the whole 'up to' part but good grief, there has to be some point where we can claim this as unacceptable. Unfortunately this is still 'up to' 15Mb/s if they really want to stick by it. If nothing else I am going to try to get them to credit back my speed plus service.
