Re: Massive Slowdowns?

Well, I spoke too soon. What a difference a few hours can make, from 8 megabit to 1, and from a "B" to a "D" ping rating:

Same here.. Except my pings are the same.

Bresnan always claims their standard service is something like 5x faster than 1.5Mb/s DSL in their commercials...I have their 15Mb/s tier and can barely achieve that of 1.5Mb/s DSL at night. They may fix it temporarily but they either keep oversubscribing nodes, backhauls, uplinks out to the internet, or the whole works or they just don't know how to manage what they already have so they bring their own network to it's knees.

Thought I would post this to show what a slap in the face this is...I can get nearly 16Mb/s to Billings but can't even achieve 1.5Mb/s out to the internet. Even if their off network speeds peaked at 13Mb/s I would be a happy camper...the full 15Mb/s package would be icing on the cake at that point.

Well you can get that speed to billings cause it is on their internal network. It's when you try and do anything else that the speed takes a crap.

Every day that passes, I am inching closer to DSL. But I may try and score a few more free months of internet first.

btw: it's 945pm and I am trying to stream the daily show...I can watch about 10 seconds of video before it starts buffering again.

This time it looks like the blame is squarely on 360. If enough people bypass bresnan and complain directly to 360, it might be enough to at leat get them to look at it. Copy your tracerts and email them to customer.service@360networks.com and call their Butte MT office at 406.496.6500

Not necessarily...Remember Bresnan has the other end of that link so it could still be Bresnan's router(s) queuing traffic or failing.

I disagree with your flow of though. 360 does not care about the average Bresnan customer. We don't even pay them, Bresnan does. The only way to get this done is to complain to Bresnan, who in turn should complain to 360.

So here is what I am going to do. I wrote a script on my router and am about to get it set to run every 30 minutes which will run a traceroute to a few locations. It will output to a txt file (one for each location) on my flashdrive with a timestamp before each trace (each time it runs it appends a blank line, the timestamp, then the trace to the txt file)...We shall see since I was asked by their tech support for more traces but with the time of each...Just automated it a little

The flash drive is plugged into one of my router's USB ports and is shared on the network so I can 'check up' on it every now and then.

Thank goodness I didn't opt for Bresnan's "Slow Speed Internet" package. I wonder if the city council would look into getting high speed internet piped into Buffalo for us?

I'm so happy to be done with this. I've been happily buzzing along with Qwest for about 3 weeks.

Maybe 1.5 (our only choice) wouldn't be bad after all.

That is kind of what I have been thinking too - get quite a kick out of their commercials that say their internet is so many times faster than 1.5Mb/s DSL...

I have not seen that commercial on our local cable for well over a month, I think. Perhaps Bresnan was advised not to advertise their "high speed internet" as they weren't providing it?

I've got over four years of pain invested in being a Bresnan Customer and kind of stick around to see if I'll ever see the speed that was promised to me and for which I've been paying for since I signed up. And sometimes my service runs as high as 2,500-3,000 which is faster than DSL. Actually, I probably average around 1200 but I just ran a test and came up with 126 kbps.

This isn't even peak time yet and I am already getting crappy service. I think I am going to call and ask for some sort of credit...less than 1/15th of the speed I should be getting is a little ridiculous. I understand the whole 'up to' part but good grief, there has to be some point where we can claim this as unacceptable. Unfortunately this is still 'up to' 15Mb/s if they really want to stick by it. If nothing else I am going to try to get them to credit back my speed plus service.

A shimmer of hope? Wonder how long they are going to 'fix' it for this time...

I just just received a call back from Bresnan concerning my FCC complaint. The caller was wanting to know if I was still having issues with internet speeds/ping time. He also stated they finally installed the new switching equipment on Jan 22nd and wanted to know if I noticed a performance difference. Since my area no longer had the issue I was curious if this has solved the problems for others who were still experiencing sub par connections.

OK open 2 cmd windows add to one window yahoo.com
and ping that. Open this ip 66.62.136.49 in the second cmd window
You will see a direct collation between the first and second when one times out, so does the other. It is not a BRESNAN problem it is 360 Networks problem or hop 6 from me.
I am am on BRESNAN internet and am really frustrated as well.
But i can not blame BRESNAN for this issue, as it is not there problem.
So if you want it fixed, i suggest calling and e-maling 360 networks to fix the problem.
That is what i am doing.

I am paying Bresnan, they should have lawyers in action by now and if they do not, they should be held accountable.

they do have lawyers i am sure of that think about how many customers they have they would have to with all the complaints The only ones who really notice is the gamers and remote web admins for the most part.
That and if you are farming on facebook or listening to online music

What would bse a great ting is to get a petition going to bring a class action law suit and free service for 6 months against 360 NETWORKS LLC
And maybe BRESNAN for not routing around the ip gateway backbone server in seattle ip 66.62.136.49 for not being fixed

As of now I am not seeing too many issues. Occasionally some traffic gets routed through 360's Portland, OR location which was having some issues (apparently) but everything seems to have settled down latency wise for now. Speed wise is still slow, but I have come to expect that from Bresnan over the years.

Man i am having more timeouts then last year it is BAD.
My speed it just what it is sold as which is great, but it does no good if i cannot stay connected for more then 2 minutes without a massive timeout.

I should not complain this much, but my work depends on it.
Just waiting for it to drop service, and banging pots hoping someone notices

Try multiple pings simultaneously to every hop leading up to that and see where it stops, could be a hop prior to that hop which is causing everything else to stop after it.

Can't expect things to get better overnight. I've only been waiting for the service for which I've been paying for about 6 years. I'm now "working" with Bresnan as a response to the FCC complaint. Not working out too well if you ask me.

It's been terrible here in Jackson, WY for the past few weeks (much more so than usual).

If Qwest would even offer 3.0 Mbit service here, it'd be a no-brainer to switch.
