Re: Yeap Verizon is stuck in the early 2000's VOICE service Verizon hung its recent smartphone hopes on the Blackberry Storm & Tour. That isn't working out too well. The Tour has a 50% failure rate.

The BlackBerry Tour is suffering from a widespread defect that could seriously impact Research in Motion's bottom line, an analyst cautioned on Wednesday. The trackball on the smartphone is reported as clogging so quickly that it requires users to frequently clean it to keep it working; as most don't or aren't aware of it, a very high number of owners end up returning the Tour to the carrier. As many as 50 percent of all Sprint's Tours are being returned, while Verizon is "angry" enough that it's telling stores to expect a shift in support to Motorola's upcoming smartphone based on Android. RIM is turning out a lot of shoddy products lately and they are Verizon's main high end product offering. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

I will give Verizon credit though, they have always been fantastic about swapping a phone in a Verizon store, no questions asked. |

I will give Verizon credit though, they have always been fantastic about swapping a phone in a Verizon store, no questions asked. I got a Storm early this year (like January or February), solely because I was going overseas for a work project. Prior to that, I'd been avoiding the smart phones like the plague (I just don't need to be that reachable). It was an earlyish release, so it had a lot of software bugs. When I got back from my third trip to Europe, a firmware update was available. Verizon told me that loading it should solve a lot of the issues I was having with the device. Well, it sorta did: the firmware update bricked my phone. But, Verizon was very good about swapping it (and then swapping the replacement phone because the replacement's USB functions were broken). Since then, it's been fairly reliable.
While I like the interface of the iPhone better, I'd not trade my Storm for the AT&T network. Around here, Verizon's coverage is SOOOOO much better than AT&T's. -- The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. -- Bertrand Russell |

| reply to Jovi The early production Tours do have trackball issues. The new ones have a green dot on the box, and I have not heard much about those failing. As with anything, the first production units can have issues.
Outside of that, it is a great phone. VZW has handled the failures very well from everything I've heard.
Also, keep in mind that the polls always lean negative for things like this since people who have bad experiences are very likely to complain, while those who have good experiences don't say much.
I even know Storm owners who are happy with their purchase. The problems that phone face include being RIM's first touch screen device, people thinking it is going to be exactly like an iPhone, and it is completely different from other BlackBerry devices that people may be used to. Software has improved, and should continue to improve. |
