| misquote? I think the article actually does state that they have been rather competitive with pricing...
Meanwhile, it is trying to win customers through some extremely competitive pricing. Consider the HTC Touch Pro 2 phone, a smartphone running the Windows Mobile operating system and targeted at business users. The device is available after a rebate and on contract with Sprint and T-Mobile for $350. On Verizon it costs $200. Verizon has also been running a buy one get one free promotion for its BlackBerry phones.
Most of Verizons current line up is below $100, says Greengart. If you go back a year this was not the case. Lately, Verizon has been very aggressive when it comes to pricing. (bold emphasis mine)
...Would seem the article here is a bit misleading on that point unless I missed something...
The quote that it's "..about the delivery" is also a decent stance to take I guess. It a rather obvious thing to say, but they do seem to back that up pretty well, so at least there is some substance there instead of wishful thinking.
On a personal note, I also prefer CDMA and dislike GSM for phone calls. Don't care if voice/data can be simultaneous or not. Someday, it'd be nice if a GOOD standard won out and all carriers moved to it. The choice to have ANY (certified) phone/device added would also, of course, be very nice. As long as TDMA isn't heavily involved, I'd probably be happy. Had a TDMA phone once and absolutely despised it; gave me headaches, made my car stereo buzz, dropped calls while on full signal standing/sitting still... GSM phones seem to be not much better than this since it's based on TDMA. Data wise, it seems a "combination" is being used in some cases, which is interesting. Perhaps a better standard is in the works (one can hope). |
