[DVR] New HD/DVR box

Does anyone here know anything about the Pace TDC787x box from Insight? The Motorola box I had died yesterday and I exchanged it for the Pace at the Insight office in Florence. It was brand new and I haven't seen them before. Just checking to see if anyone has had any problems or issues with these.

Looks like it has a bigger hard drive. 250GB if the website I visited is correct.

I wish the Lexington office would allow us to switch out a defective box in person.

They make you get an appointment for a tech to come to the home.Hilariously,I get to wait a week and a half for something I could get in an hour myself.

I'm not so sure about that, considering this box is basically a cablecard container and the nightmares I have heard from people having trouble with those, plus this new firmware seems to have greatly improved the motorola.

Does this Pace dvr use the tv guide interface like the current Motorola dvrs do? Has anyone in Lexington been able to get this new dvr yet?

All new cable boxes are cable card containers they have to have removable security. Kind of dumb because the card are covered with a screw on plate, you go FCC.

Yea, it was brand new, still had the protective plastic sticker on the display on the front. Here in Florence, you can have a tech switch the box out or just bring it to the office. Even the rep on the phone said it is easier and faster to do it yourself. The interface is the same as the Motorola I had. No difference as far as I can tell.

What's the size of this box? It looks kind of small compared the Motorola DVR's.

Length and depth wise it looks pretty much the same. Height wise, I'd say it's a little shorter than the Motorola. The only bad thing with that is the clock/channel number display on the front is smaller. Guess I'll have to get use to that. No other problems so far.

From the specs page it sounds like it might have an external hard drive port that actually works, have you by any chance tried it out?

It does have a port, but it may not work with Insight. I downloaded the owner's manual from Pace's website and it says "Your cable service provider MAY enable a feature that allows an external hard drive". The key word is may, it sounds like that it's up to them. It would be nice to see if it works, but I don't have an external hard drive and wouldn't really want to buy one if it doesn't work.

P.S. Here's a link to the owner's manual I mentioned above if anyone's interested: »www.pace.com/media/generic/PDF/m···nual.pdf
