| reply to kapil Re: Clear/Clearwire/Sprint 4G/Comcast Mobile
I called earlier today with no luck. They told me they don't have a process in place to do a conversion and all they could offer to do for me was to cancel my Xohm account and attempt to start a Clear account. The Clear representative was very friendly and connected me to Xohm/Clear Tech support and he insisted there was nothing they could do to send me the equipment right now.
What would help is if Kapil would be able to post the name(s) of the representative(s) that figured out how to make this happen for him. I am happy my Xohm USB modem is working, but the Home modem is what I want to get up and running. |

| I frankly don't remember the name of the rep.
I also tried to do an online chat first, but chat rep said I'd have to call in whether I needed help getting my connection to work or cancel my account. If they can't do tech support or customer service over chat, I don't why they even have it.
I did get emails with FedEx tracking numbers so both devices were shipped today and will be here tomorrow.
I should clarify...this was for my Clear account, not my Xohm account. -- »www.VoIPTrunk.com |

How did you get a Clear account? When I call they're able to look me up without issues (Xohm acct?) But they just say they're not swapping equipment til 2010. |

| I called Xohm, and asked rep to give me an address where there's Clear coverage....he gave me an Atlanta address. I used that address to signup for Clear online. -- »www.VoIPTrunk.com |

| reply to kapil They're trying to charge me $35 to activate. I'm so sick of this shit with these 2 companies, why can't they just get their act together and launch. I had no issues besides coverage with Xohm and now clear wants to charge $35 to activate my own equipment.
Yeah yeah, I'm in Chicago I know. But if I was in Atlanta I'd be pissed about the activation as well especially with my own equipment that they made inoperable. If I knew for a fact that they would swap out my equipment I'd just suck it up and go for it, but already getting a run-a-round I'm suspect of them. Decisions Decision. |

2 edits | reply to kapil Still a XOHM customer. Here is my speedtest using my XOHM ZTE USB modem tonight in Schaumburg...
I am leaving well enough alone until they get the Home modem figured out unless Clear has helped others convert over. $35/device activation fee on the bring your own device plan is ridiculous. |

| Looks like your traffic is also being backhauled on the same network...notice the clearwire corporation from the dns lookup in your speed test.
The pricing appears to be the same as Xohm $35 per device, home of mobile....or $50 for both. -- »www.VoIPTrunk.com |

| Sorry, I meant $35/device activation fee on the BYOD plans is ridiculous. I have edited my earlier post. I've been using my USB modem instead of my home Comcast connection for the last hour or so and it's been nice and responsive. I have all sorts of problems with timeouts when on Facebook using Comcast, but with Clear/XOHM, it's been great. |

They will need to work on this to keep customers happy. I would love to know how they plan on providing Voice service over WiMAX. |

My sister just bought a place in Lake Zurich and despises Comcast who is her only choice for HSI. Clear would be a possible option if available. |

It's not available to new customers yet, however I have heard December 1st may be the official launch date for Chicago. I hope it's sooner than that though. That's a good point about their VoIP using QoS, however I believe they are still tweaking things and it will get better with time.
According to Xohm/Clear, I am about a mile outside of their coverage area from the nearest WiMAX tower. There was a closer tower that was live about 3/4 mi. away when Xohm was testing a year ago and I had a perfect signal and always a consistent 4-6Mbps down and 1-2Mbps up. I hope they bring that one back up soon. |

Looks like it is not really a landline replacement if VOIP is involved. We have really flaky DSL and was hoping this might be a solution. |
