Ready for Fall??

I can't believe Fall is upon us. I haven't even began the stuff I wanted to get done during the Summer! The porch still need painting, the picnic table and chairs still need painting, the whole West side of my house needs to be painted (due to some construction work.) Trees need to be trimmed and/or cut down. My time is running out FAST!

Where the Hell did the summer go??????

I bought some socks (don't wear sox between Memorial Day and Columbus Day). Penned letters of recommendation for my summer crew (the girl was in tears about going home, in May she hated the place. Typical J-1 student). Trimmed most of the trees. Attic fan is sealed for winter.

To do list is get rid of tree limbs and seal driveway. Clean fishing rods in a few weeks after the fall slam. Plant Narcissus bulbs. Firewood. Fix some trim and paint.

I am at least a little closer. At least "prep" wise.

I power washed my driveway... making way to be sealed.
I power washed my deck, and porch, readying for painting.

I am most anxious for fall, even though it means a serious (negative) change in my life. Fall is my favorite season, both for the cooler temperatures and the fall leaves. I went to Fort Williams and York Beach Maine last weekend and am very anxious for the leaves along the Kancamagus HIghway in New Hampshire to start changing colors! What a day trip that will be

Got three loads of gravel for the driveway ordered- I am done with blacktop!

I also called the stove guy to make an appointment to clean the big pellet stove and the chimneys- I figure that the heating season is upon us. (The three tons of pellets are also upon us, rendering the garage pretty useless for the foreseeable future.)

We are taking our RV out next week along the Maine coast for our last run before it gets winterized and put up for the winter- I hope that the weather is good.

Hey, can you pop by Fort Popham and take a few pictures for me?

I hope to get the chance to to get to Reid, just a bit north of there...

It is a good time of year for the campgrounds, as most of them close for the season the morning of Oct. 15th- the kids are all back in school and the snowbirds have pretty well flown, and it is quiet.

The beaches are likewise sparsely attended and very enjoyable. We saw loads of seals off Wells beach a couple of weeks ago. They seemed to be perfectly content to have most of the beach to themselves.

I will not miss the "tent" deal... I freely admit that I am getting old, and intolerant of waking up in a cold pick-up truck with a colder tent off the back. I like the under-floor heat and the onboard kitchen...

So I get up at the crack of 9 this morning to some hellacious noise outside. Town workers cutting branches near the road for the winter. Well HOT-DAMN! I've been trimming branches all week using a manual 'saw-on-a-stick'; they had a gas powered one with a better reach! They cut a couple I would have needed a ladder for, took some of the stuff I had cut down, cut some things I wanted cut AND dropped 2 little scrub oaks for me!

GO TEAM!

Being late October, I tossed them a couple Reese's' PB cups and told them they had great costumes.

Nice how that worked out!

I've been hand cutting trees down or trimming branches (I am not very good with a chain saw) and it can be allot of work!

Forget any fall pictures... not going to happen.

But:

For spring I have planted 6 new shrubs, 2 dozen daffodils, and 2 dozen tulips. ( I never did this before so we'll see how this works)

And sadly, moved and covered all my outside furniture and covered the AC unit. I've taken down my planters, and stashed all my lawn care stuff once and for all.

My outside jobs are finished for the winter. Now on to my 36 item list of things to do INSIDE over the winter.

I'm even more ready!

My bathroom sink always freeze up when it got very cold, and windy.

I decided to replace the aging faucet, and in the process the drain also.

Since I had everything apart and open, I took out the floor boards giving me my first site of my pipes.
TADA! They where bare, on the concrete floor, right along the outside wall (and to my knowledge with no insulation)

So I found a board, lifted them off the floor, and also used spry foam insulation along the wall and other open spots hopefully sealing any drafts.

I am hopeful this will end my freezing pipes!

It already feels warmer under the sink.....

A man died after falling off a ladder trimming trees this week, "Bummer, what a way to go" I thought after finishing the same job. Newspaper said "An unidentified middle-aged man..." damn, that's what I would be called too.

Forget Fall... now Winter!

Okay... PHYSICALLY.... I am ready for winter. I did allot of work on the house to help it handle winter better.
Now, myself. I am still NOT psyched for the cold. The snow, okay. But not the cold.
