Re: Needed Verizon tech to "break ip lease" to restore service The IP Address is assigned to the MAC Address of your router. Raphion is right: If you intend to shutdown your router for any reason, and for any length of time, it is best to "release" your IP Address, so that the next time you start your router, it will grab an address that is available at that time.
