[DW7000] No Usage Stats + "Your Modem Has Been Discontinued"

Hey all, first time posting here.

I have Hughesnet with the DW7000 modem. We've got four computers in our house, so checking the usage page is a regular thing for me. When I went to check it this morning, I noticed it hadn't been updated since 7 AM EST on Thursday morning. I know it doesn't show usage under a certain amount, but I know that our usage during that time was easily enough to have triggered it showing.

Normally, I wouldn't think a second thing about this, and just chalk it up to Hughes having problems, but after browsing away to two or three webpages, I got an automatic redirect to a hughesnet.com page saying "Your HughesNet® service is using a discontinued modem and warrants an upgrade for optimal performance."

Now, once again, normally I would think a second thought about it, but being that the two seemed to coincide with each other, I'm just curious to know if it's coincidence, or maybe Hughes trying to discretely "force" me into an upgrade.

I'd appreciate anything anyone knows about this. Thanks all.

Well they are pushing hard to get rid of all of the 6000 and plain 7000 modems.

I don't think the usage page has been cut off. Probably some other typical glitch.

It is important to use the correct usage page for your modem.

They will probably continue to harass you until you upgrade.

Some people have been getting free upgrades to 9000 systems by talking nice to Executive Customer service.

If you are stuck with satellite for a while and no better option in sight it would probably be to your advantage to upgrade.

I'm using the usage page found at »customercare.myhughesnet.com/frm_usage.cfm

I believe that's the correct one.

I have had periods of time where they usage page does not update. This has happened on both the 7000s and the 9000. Usually an email to tech support will get the issue corrected.

I also use a DW7000 but my usage stats have been normal for the entire month and are current up until a little over an hour ago.

Earlier this week, I also started receiving the popup you referred to urging me to upgrade, but after looking closely after about the fifth time, I noticed in very small print, near the top of the popup page and on the right side, there was a link telling them not to display the popup any more. I selected that and haven't been bothered since.

While I have had acceptable (for ME) service for the past 5+ years from DirecPC/Hughes, I don't intend going back under contract with them to 'upgrade' my system which still meets my needs, nor am I willing to pay to change out a system that still serves my needs adequately.

Fortunately, Verizon has expanded their 3G network to the point that I am in their footprint now, so if Hughes pushes too hard, they can color me gone...

To reiterate, on my DW7000, the usage page still works as it should, and I have not been bothered by the popups since I 'opted out' the day they started.

Same here my 7000 has actually been working better than it was when I first got it. Rarely have anymore slowdowns. Why would I roll the dice on another modem. Read nothing but horror stories on this board about the 7000s and the 9000 doesn't sound much better.
For jumping to the cell carriers. I'm in Verizon's footprint too. The only downside is their 5 gigabyte monthly limit. I can pull down 30+ with Hughesnet. Think I'll stick with the guys that give me a better deal. Now if this modem up and dies maybe I'll upgrade but I'm not going to be forced off something that works for something that might not.

1 edit
same here dw7000
usage page is working fine

I have the same views bumwolf , but i have the option of 3 cell carriers Alltel, verizon and sprint. I can't see switching to one of them as a main provider but only as an addition to hughes to solve latency issues.
