Re: Needed Verizon tech to "break ip lease" to restore service

I think one of you may have hit on what happened. OOL's ip's did not change on router reboot and are tied to the mac address. Never had a problem with that.

Verizon seems to assign a new ip every boot. Thus , I wound up with an IP that had been reassigned to someone else.

Still, seems a little odd that it would matter. If the IP addy is assigned to me , why would rebooting the modem matter?
Where's the 'mismatch'?

I've been powering down nightly for 30 years (not a typo) without blowing anything up yet, I always take these stories of equipment not liking it with a LARGE grain of salt, as you couldn't prove it by me.

That said, I may leave the router on just to avoid the IP hassle in the future.

Verizon's IP lease is 2 hours. Most cable co use much longer leases.
