| [DVR] New Firmware for DCX 3400 DVR out yet?
Hey,
Does anyone know if the Motorola DCX 3400 series DVR firmware version 22.35 has been rolled out onto Comcast boxes yet? - Supposedly that fixes any HDMI issues with the box.
I'm hoping to get a DCX box, but not if they have HDMI issues. |

Or the DCH kick the bucket (whichever comes first). |

1 edit | reply to AquaSport Hey!
I read the posts earlier, so I ran down to my Comcast center and picked up a new one - a DCX3400. The woman at the counter said that she has one at her home and that it is FANTASTIC... that I'll just LOVE it. After looking at the bottom of the DVR, it references "320", so I hope it has that size of hard drive.
Well, I finally have it home, I'm ready to set it up....... no power cord in the bag. UGH! I'll have to wait until tomorrow to say how it performs, but it is a few inches (3-5) narrower than the DCH-3416 (which is AWESOME), and it looks pretty sweet. The casing is metal all around, the front has touch-sensitive buttons (like on your oven... possibly), and hopefully if a new iguide version comes out, this one'll be the first to get the upgrade. I have high hopes for this thing!
BTW... does anyone remember when these DVRs used to crash all the time? You'd lose all your recordings because the box killed itself by crashing too many times and corrupting itself... or the box would delete all recordings and leave one in it's place... dated 1987 or something? Man, that was HORRIBLE! Just a quick flashback to how far these things have come in the last few years.
I'll post again when I've tested it out a bit! Probably tomorrow or the next day, after I pick up the power cord (and get my $10 HDMI cable in the mail - overnight shipping).
EDIT: grammar... my bad! |

EDIT: grammar... my bad! you got a 320GB harddrive version I have had 2 since june, The only difference is non comcast DCX boxes have the motorola symbol on the left instead of the right and no cable company name on the box.
my system is 870MHz has 52HD and is getting SDV with Iguide A28 soon. |

| reply to AquaSport I wish when time warner gets the bugs out of SDV that comcast would start using it. It would be a quicker way of getting more digital and hd channels but of course by that time comcast probably would have transferred most of the analog channels to digital so the point would be moot. |

| reply to AquaSport Hmm.. just set up the box and activated it. First impressions:
Checked the firmware... version 22.35.. no issues.
The box is about 1.5X faster than my 2 year old Motorola DCH-3416.
The box is smaller, and makes much less heat.
I checked the DVR temperature reading (in the secret settings menu), and it's about 10 degrees cooler than the old box.
Quieter than any other DVR I've ever had (all were Comcast dVRs).
... finally, a larger hard drive (320 gb).. Which is REALLY nice. I finally have a decent DVR that I enjoy. Whoo! |

| reply to AquaSport Congrats on your DCX-3432! I have had one for just over 3 weeks and love mine. No problems at all with it. avg. temp is 105deg. all my other DCT-3412 & 3416's run about 98deg -- 103 deg.
cooler do to the open grill style case.
You should notice that you also have 512 MB of RAM and 64MB Flash Ram and even though it does not show how much NVRAM, I looked and it is a 256mb chip.
This thing has Memory to spare and is way under utilized running iGuide as the EPG. |

| Marcus... wow, that sucks. What software version of the iGuide and what Firmware version on the box do you have... out of curiosity?
scanpa... Yeah, I wish the guide gets updated soon for the boxes that can handle it... what ever happened to that new shiny black TV guide that we saw in 2008 (or even 2007)??!
Just a "I noticed this": When I check the temperature rreading... it's changed from a max of 98 degrees to a max of 108... what the F...? just thought i'd mention that. Box works great.. it's just kind of weird.
Also! - My signal levels have gone from "Good" on the old box (DCH-3416) to "FAIR" in the new box... any ideas? |

| reply to scanpa I have a dcx 34xx on F/W 22.35 and I am experiencing HDCP Not Authorized error. The screen sometimes stays on for a few minutes behind the error message and sometimes the error goes away but inevitably it loses the picture.
I am going straight from the Motorola box to the television. My old box displayed the signal fine.
I have heard of a 22.37 being released. If I leave the box plugged in and powered (not necessarily on) will it automatically pick up the update if it is already out - from what I've read this happens usually during early morning hours.
If for example, a F/W update came out last week for 22.37 (in general a new update) but I just got the box today and have 22.35 will it update, or would one have to wait until the next scheduled major release update? or could it be random and I have to wait several days?
I have read that 22.37 fixes more HDMI incompatibility, does anyone know if this is true. Is there anyone that had 22.35 and continued to have problems that were resolved on 22.37?
I have a TH-50PZ700U
thank you for any insight |

Problem still exists...perhaps 22.37 will be the answer I've been waiting for.

| reply to Lparsimmons The update will be sent out via your HEADEND plant when they are ready to for it. It's not like a MS update that you can do at will.
Best thing to do, is keep an eye on this site or AVS Forums as most people will post when these updates start going out in there areas. |

1 edit | reply to AquaSport I noticed that the Pace RNG-110 stretches the guide full screen (minus a few pixels on the right side) even on HD channels. A buddy of mine had an RNG-110 connected via HDMI and all of the possible resolutions were checked off. I checked his TV on an HD channel and his TV was not zoomed or anything, it was set to Native.
Wonder why the DCX3400 which supposedly has the hardware capability to generate HD graphics still has a centered small guide on HD channels, but then a stretched guide on SD channels. The screen saver feature would be more useful if it filled the screen. But ever since IGuide A24, theres a few pixels that 'creep through' on the right side of the screen on all boxes (Pace & Motorola) during stretched guides (SD Channels, or TV zoomed in). |

| reply to AquaSport yeah Chickey, I was following the avs forums as well but didnt want to "cross" post.. it's a frustrating problem as my unit is dead against the wall and I dont have a cable run there either except for HDMI. today when I called comcast the technician said Comcast does not officially support HDMI on any box. She told me I don't even have a DCX3400 and that they don't carry them. Then when we went back and forth she said they call it the new Motorola with the cable card - that sounds real technical.
What I'm trying to understand is if every box gets pushed it from the headend at the same time, and if it continues to update daily if for example my box was unplugged or being used, or would I miss it and then only get it the next time they try.. it also sounds like they do batches for testing then it could be more weeks gone by before others in the same county/area get it. It's probably all a moot point to me because it seems like no one really knows the exact roll out..it's a sit and wait game.
they also said they are out of old boxes and only rolling out new ones... |
