anon posted : I don't think that's the issue. I'm running Tributaries Series 9 cabling, and everything worked fine until a) I swapped out a DCT box for the DCX box and b) Comcast later upgraded the firmware to 22.35. Went to bed one night after watching Letterman, and awoke the next morning to an HDCP error message. Just to check, I temporarily rigged the cable box up with a 1 meter HDMI cable to the side HDMI jack, and had the same problem.

C

ak3883 posted : A 40ft HDMI cable run without a repeater/extender/booster sounds like trouble. You'd have to have a high quality cable to not loose any of the signal, and inconsistant HDCP definetly sounds like it could be a problem with your 40ft cable. A cheap 28AWG cable probably won't cut it for 40ft.

anon posted : Yep, same problem here. I've got a 35-40 foot run of HDMI that goes through walls and under floors, and outside of the power cord, that's the only cable running to the TV. Like you, running component is not an option. The Comcast folks, while all well intentioned, have no clue what HDCP is, nor how to fix it.

What really got was Motorola. There were more emails back and forth after the exchange I posted above, and it went from "there is no problem" to "our engineers are investigating with Comcast." But they close the ticket claiming the issue had been resolved (so they can meet their metrics), and I keep opening it. The fact is, if they had to sell this unit in a retail outlet like a Best Buy, the returns who be through the roof, and they'd have to address the problems. But since it's a Comcast provided unit, the two companies point fingers at one another, and the consumer suffers in the process. Talk about a lack of any accountability.

I've kept the 3400 plugged in so it will continue to receive any software updates, and I periodically check the firmware level by plugging the unit into another TV via S-video. In the meantime, I've also obtained a 3200 (non DVR model) which will talk to my TV without the HDCP issue.

Colin

Lparsimmons posted : yeah Chickey, I was following the avs forums as well but didnt want to "cross" post.. it's a frustrating problem as my unit is dead against the wall and I dont have a cable run there either except for HDMI. today when I called comcast the technician said Comcast does not officially support HDMI on any box. She told me I don't even have a DCX3400 and that they don't carry them. Then when we went back and forth she said they call it the new Motorola with the cable card - that sounds real technical.

What I'm trying to understand is if every box gets pushed it from the headend at the same time, and if it continues to update daily if for example my box was unplugged or being used, or would I miss it and then only get it the next time they try.. it also sounds like they do batches for testing then it could be more weeks gone by before others in the same county/area get it. It's probably all a moot point to me because it seems like no one really knows the exact roll out..it's a sit and wait game.

they also said they are out of old boxes and only rolling out new ones...

cypherstream posted : I noticed that the Pace RNG-110 stretches the guide full screen (minus a few pixels on the right side) even on HD channels. A buddy of mine had an RNG-110 connected via HDMI and all of the possible resolutions were checked off. I checked his TV on an HD channel and his TV was not zoomed or anything, it was set to Native.

Wonder why the DCX3400 which supposedly has the hardware capability to generate HD graphics still has a centered small guide on HD channels, but then a stretched guide on SD channels. The screen saver feature would be more useful if it filled the screen. But ever since IGuide A24, theres a few pixels that 'creep through' on the right side of the screen on all boxes (Pace & Motorola) during stretched guides (SD Channels, or TV zoomed in).
