having purchased stuff from tigerdirect - i can only imagine what quality that stuff really is.

Actually those work very well. i installed one for a client that has a dozen offices in the DC area encompassing at least a floor at each office. They had lousy coverage in half of a floor. after we installed this, I easily had the 3000 sq ft of coverage it says. I was really surprised how well it worked. It worked with several carriers(the one we installed wasn't for Nextel) very well. And it was under $300 with a 30 day guarantee that it would work as advertised.(this was from Solid Signal)
Now at home I had originally looked at this but had no place to install the antenna. The client was in an office building so we put it in the ceiling near a window. So for home I got a lower end vesion which only works within several square feet.. It worked but I had two die on me in a short period of time. Unlike the $300 version. So when The Verizon Femtocell came out I jumped on it. And at $250 with no monthly charge, it seems like I got a good deal compared to what AT&T is going to charge for their Femtocell.. |

i suggested wilson electronics because i have used and sold their gear in very rural areas. their stuff is engineered very well and if they say it works, then it will work. the dual band antennas worked well for not only our local gsm carrier, but vzw as well. good stuff and i would recommend them to anyone.
and of course - iden is its own beast. wilson makes its own special line to support the iden gear that is separate from the gsm and cdma stuff.

 | ok, if you don't like the reseller get the extender from another vendor: »www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/ce···ne/b32e/ |

tubbynetreminds me of the danse russePremium,MVM join:2008-01-16 Chandler, AZ | the product in the link above is a wilson electronics antenna booster, which is the company that i am supporting.
in the original youtube clip, the antenna is *not* made by wilson. the two are *not* the same.
fail.

 | I thought the general idea was the point. One of these extenders would pay itself off in less than 18 months as compared to the AT&T cost for a femtocell. Reliability of either device/system is questionable -- either has prowess and cons. |

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | reply to tubbynet Exactly.. Wilson Electronics - this is what they do - make electronic grear for wireless in general (not just cell phones).
Z-Ex / Wi-Ex is a 'one hit wonder'. They'll sell off their product to someone else soon. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

I didn't realize these were different products that looked the same. What we installed was the Zboost antenna which Solid Signal sold. And it worked great,
EDIT: Zboost looks like it's from Wi-Ex.com. |

there is a *big* difference between the system that tg sells, and this system (which was what i was originally referring to being $600 or so).

 | reply to jchambers28 Right...through the walls, from the attic, drill a hole, another gd device showing up in some conspicuous spot. Good idea and a terrible solution. |
