I would be willing to pay for the device itself (either in full or on a monthly "$30 for 6 months"-type payment plan), but not a continual monthly fee on top of paying for the service itself and lowering their costs by using your bandwidth and taking stress and bandwidth off their towers.
Companies seem eager to pack costs onto consumers but not so eager or, in this case, greedy to tack fees on to something that most-likely lowers their costs. To me, this is just another "our customers are too stupid to notice a scam when they see one" idea on their part.
I am glad I got rid of AT&T POTS, Wireless, and Internet years ago!
