Amazon USPS

I ordered a new Ipod Touch 8GB on Monday night. I got the delivery confirmation on Thursday night. On amazon's site, it says that it left at September 17, 2009 in Sterling VA US. Since, that is not that far from Harrisburg, PA, I would expect it to be delivered either on the 18th or 19th even though on amazon's site, it was expected to be delivered on the 21st. So the 18th and 19th passed by and I still don't have the package. Now it is the 21st. Since this was the expected time from Amazon to be delivered, I would expect to see this come today, but it didn't. The funny thing is. I try to use the tracking number on USPS's site and they state that they don't even have a record of the package.... Should I be worried about this? Or just wait it out?

Go back to the Amazon website, login, hit the tab for Track my Order...you will find your order...it SHOULD have data on there - either something about the tracking number or a tab you can click.
If nothing is given...then look on the right side for the Contact Us...call them...they should be able to give you all the data you require as to the Tracking.
Amazon's Tracking numbers NEVER show up on the USPS site...don't know why, but it is just that way.

USPS is bad about tracking numbers sometimes. Never update until delivered. Plus I do not cvare if it is one mile or one thousand miles away. The package just will never likely be delivered sooner.

This is a regular occurrence with Amazon. Amazon's tracking says it left their facility when in it hasn't. Has occurred with at least the last four orders I've made with Amazon. Use only USPS to track.

Well, last week I order something on saturday night from New Jersey and it came in on Monday with USPS.

I did check the site on Amazon's site. It shows that it has left the facility and then it says arrival scan on the 18th with no location in it...

I've also experienced the same thing, only to have the item/tracking information show up days later.

I've had terrible experience with Amazon and Buy.com's use of USPS. Things disappear into the system for a week and magically reappear when they're good and ready. The all time record was a Buy.com shipment through the UPS/USPS that took one day short of two weeks from the Philadelphia area to here. That's all of 50 miles.

I agree that their "tracking" is a joke.

So an hour ago, I just emailed what happened. They replied with that they are using FedEx Smart Post to do the shipping and then using USPS as their last leg. They gave me a link to fedex's tracking site and surprisingly, it was there. It gave me an estimated delivery date of September 22.

So, in the future, if anyone can't get a track on USPS's track, try Fedex's tracking site.....

and also UPS.. both of them have similar service agreement with USPS. With the Free Shipping service that Amazon is offering they are going to either use UPS or FedEX + USPS for shipping because it might be easier for them to track everything afterwords.

Woot.com also uses Smart Post. It sucks. Took them a week to deliver a package from Dallas to me, all of maybe 175 miles.

The Smart Post motto seems to be "We really suck, but we sure are cheap!"

It isn't the FedEx leg that sucks, it's the USPS leg of the journey.

If you order enough from Amazon, it really is worth it to get a Prime membership. Free 2-day shipping and $4 for overnight.

I think Prime costs about $60 per year, I have had it since around 2004 and it really is a lifesaver if you need to send gifts FAST for birthdays, holidays, etc.

So now it is today, the 22th. The ETA delivery date on FedEx's site.
On the site, it showed that it just left MARTINSBURG, WV at Sep 22, 2009 4:50 AM. It it is saying that it was at MARTINSBURG, WA for 4 days not moving at the warehouse...
I thought that the 4 days after the arrival scan, they was missing the scan or something and it was in transit instead of sitting at MARTINSBURG.

I must agree with you, the fedex part of the shipping is pretty fast. The 4 days of waiting for USPS to move the package out of MARTINSBURG... is not. Now that it has left MARTINSBURG, it is showing on USPS's site as The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on September 22, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

Now hopefully, they won't go to like Pittsburg, PA before they come here and get in just in time for the G-20 Summit...

UPdate:Well on USPS's site, it says that it is at Mechanicsburg, PA at 3:30 PM. So, if all goes well, I should get it tomorrow. Unless the carrier forgets it or something.. Just my luck.. Still don't understand why it was just sitting down there for 4 days without moving, yet it only takes 5 hours to get here.

Can what the USPS offers actually be considered "tracking?"

Tracking, to me, is knowing where your package is every step of the way, from when it leaves the shipper, to when it shows up on your doorstep. Whenever I've tried to use the USPS's "tracking," the most they seem to be able to tell me is that 1) They've received a package and 2) The package has been delivered.

Anything that happens between those two occurrences remains a mystery. Am I missing something here?

The last time I mailed a package with USPS, I referred to it as a tracking number and the USPS employee corrected me saying that it's not tracking, it's delivery confirmation. So in USPS' view it is not tracking.

No, it isn't.

It's worth every penny if you order a lot of stuff online. The savings have probably paid for my membership 3-4x in the last 60 days alone.
