Araiden posted : Hrmm... I guess i missed some of what you posted. Their is only a few things on the lines to your house or the main line that can affect your download speeds or latency. If you have a bit error rate below 1.0 e -9.
1 error for every billion bits of information this can cause latency issues, and slow speeds. If you have ingress, outside signals coming into the line this can affect your speeds. Also if their is not enough bandwidth available in your node this cause can cause slow speeds. Are you noticing slow speeds mostly at night when other people are home and using the internet? And their can even be an issue where their is not enough bandwidth available on the backbone and everyone in your town is having issues. Also the modem, or if you have a router it can cause latency, or speed issues.

anon posted : Also, have you ensured your linux machine has all if its TCP/IP parameters configured correctly? Have you tried directly attaching to the cable modem and running tests to ensure that the modem(s) are not the cause?

zraider posted : That was a quick reply, not to be flippant, but did you actually read it ?
A technician did come out to the house and checked the modem and the signal back to their site, and everything looked good.
And the upload speed is fine, that's what's strange. When I said attachments wouldn't go, I should have clarified that though. I didn't mean small jps's like I uploaded here, I was talking about 15-20MB avi files, which I upload through another mail service. I was trying to upload a 17MB avi file, and finally, yesterday, it did go.
I'm not at all being critical of Suddenlink. I just wanted to post my experiences, and as far as Suddenlink Communications, they've been working on the problem since I've reported it.
The mistakes about the new setup with the telephone were just mistakes, and though they shouldn't have been made, it does happen, and they were corrected quickly.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the service from Suddenlink, internet and telephone.
I wouldn't trade it for the DSL service here if it were free.

Araiden posted : You should have a technician come out to your house and make sure everything is ok there. Also your download speed won't have anything at all to do with uploading attachments. Your upload speed is what counts there, from the looks of it 750k. Still if your just trying to upload little attachments that shouldn't be an issue.

Suddenlink: 10MB Service Up one Minute, Down the Next !!

zraider posted : I had 8MB down service with Suddenlink until this last August, when I had their phone service installed, and the old Motorola modem came out and a new Arris modem went in. I also changed my internet service to 10MB down.
Since that time, my internet has acted very strange. First, I found that part of the modem setup wasn't even entered on their end, then I found it wasn't entered correctly, now supposedly it is entered correctly, but a tech came out last Friday, and after hooking up his meter and checking here and there, he could find no problem with the modem or line. Supposedly, someone was going to check the amplifier on the line behind my house, and call me. I was never called today. I checked with their tech support and they said that some work had been done, but still no solution.
I got 9.65MB this morning on a speed test, and I got 1.65MB just an hour or so ago. I can get not attachments to upload. And I'm paying for 10MB down !!
I honestly hate to complain, but after all the snafus, one does tend to become a bit jaded. The sad thing is, Suddenlink is the "only show in town", so I have little choice; I'm sure not going to DSL.
Any suggestions, comments, advice..... ??
Thanks.
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">
