anon posted : Hey was just reading through the forum and had a quick question you guys might be able to answer.

I just recently switched to Telus TV and noticed that when both TV's are on my download speed on my computer (tested through speedtest.net) is 60kbps and when I have no TV's on it was 300kbps. So I phoned in and talked to the tech's, fiddled around with things on the phone for 2 hours with them. They finally said they were going to upgrade me to an "HD Line" for free which they said would provide more bandwidth. (This will not be done for 24 hours though)

So my questions are to anyone that might know, How fast should i expect my internet to be?, and will this mean I will be getting HD channels through my Telus TV aswell for free aswell?

Thanks in advance

anon posted : I read most of the thread, dare to say it is a little confusing for a non techie. I have TTV and when I ordered it I was told it would not effect the internet speeds... obviously it has. I feel somewhat lied to by the sales agent. Im sure I asked the right questions but I was told it would all workout without any noticeable changes. My first Invoice was totally screwed up! it took 2 months to clear everything up! Now the net is ultra slow, ive called a few times to complain. HD is not an option "yet" in my hood. An option was to switch to satellite which I just had and switched for TTV! To improve the speeds I was told to unplug the TTV boxes if I wanted more juice for the net??? I unplugged 1 of the 2 that we seldom use and so far didnt notice any change... I downloaded something at a max of 170kps, my friend at the same time using Shaw was at 900kps! Im very disappointed here...... argh!

eric2k_ posted : What a fun DAY.... (NOT)
My internet has been down all day today. I have to wait till THURSDAY for a technician to come deal with the ports that got messed from my TTV order. 6meg to 3meg swtich. Level One Techs could not do anything on there side. So now I am playing the WAITING GAME.

I am online off my mobile internet.(thank god for it)

Here is what happened.
I called in at first to regular highspeed support in the Philippines. The guy was talking with whoever above them and said they would get it fixed. I was on hold and got disconnected.

I called back to the same highspeed support line and just got frustrated with the front line support from the Philippines. She told me someone from higher up would call me back latter and my order for TTV has been canceled. I TOOK OFF A DAY FROM WORK FOR TELUS AND THESE idiots cancel my order and i lose my install DATE. GRATE just GREAT.
She claimed they can not trace who canceled the order? I was getting very pissed and asked to be sent to LNR, she asked for a reason i just said because i need to speak with them i don't want to be offensive to you.

LnR and i spoke. The guy was great. I got everything i wanted setup.
Existing line for TTV/Phone
NEW line for 6Meg Internet.

I get to keep it under the bundle price plus the permanent discount i get. So only 20$ per month for High Speed 6 meg. I got the same deal i was offered from last the canceled TTV order. The first month free and 6months 20 bucks off on TTV and all channels but movies/world stuff for first month.

Only lame thing is i have to call back tomorrow for the order to go though because there is one still in the system for me. But LnR assured me it is all ready for tomorrow.

As for Telus Satellite TV. I would not get it. I do not want a satellite dish on my house. Plus the TTV Watch a lot bundle for 54$ under bundle pricing is the best. It beats satellite tv options. Costs way more for satellite. I don't need any of the other HD channels besides Essential HD and Sports.

Now i wont mind getting a D-link Modem for TTV and i will swap my siemens for the speed touch! Lol I am a tiny bit frustrated that my internet is down but in the long run this should all workout nice.

Now I just need this craigslist guy to hurry up with my third telus STB, lol.

Also,

I wonder if I could get 1HD, 2SD provisioned seeing how i wont have a 3MEG internet connection on my line with TTV.

IF I CAN DO THAT wow i will be extremely happy with TTV.

TierX posted : MTS's IPTV isn't vastly different than ours, aside from their different middleware. Their is no negotiation between the STB and dslam, and allocated frequencies or whatever silliness. That just isn't how DSL works.

They simply have different port profiles for different service plans and don't let their IPTV service steal bandwidth from their internet service and vice versa. This can be implemented on the dslam, or at the aggregation layer through policy management.

The upside to this is you always have a fixed amount of bandwidth available for internet service, the downside to this is you can't re-claim bandwidth on your DSL line for internet service if you aren't watching IPTV.

anon posted : i dunno bout telus tv. but mts tv has alotted frequencies in the spectrum of bandwidth available. meaning, the settop box will auto negotiate with the bslam when it syncs up. this denotes how much bandwidth is useable, then it alotts 16.8 Mbs for tv in a certain part of the spectrum, and then setup up what is available for HSI. that is when it is decided on how much bandwidth is alotted for HSI. 3, 6, 12, 20. but these parts of the spectrum, tv part is only for tv. hsi part is only for hsi. they do not share or steal bandwidth from each other.
