I have some updated photos of our microwave hub site now that we've installed some more gear and antennas for our LSY based link.
Ive since got a new camera which has a much wider angle lens, so I was able to get a better shot of the gear inside the hut this time.
There is still a bit of work to go at this site after rearranging some cabling, such as labelling the cables, a few more network cables and power cabling to tidy up aswell. Unfortunately because its a production site it takes time because work has to be scheduled and advisories raised etc. |

It's got me wondering about our proposed backup wireless link, since we already have a sonet ring and teh IP traffic is simply a spur. |

Not a ring, though these radios may eventually form part of a ring, but it wont be a SONET/SDH ring, most likely ethernet.
We only handle packet traffic. The muxes at each of the sites where we have one of these LSYs has an ethernet services card in them so that we can do EoSDH. |

Jesus! That's a big radio! What's the EIRP of that link? (I'm assuming about 30db of gain off those antennas...)
We couldn't figure it out, but we were guessing, with the waveguide, this is probably a 10ghz link? |

IIRC the radios themselves can output 1 watt.
We have a mix of 1.8 and 2.4 metre dishes for this network, the 1.8's are just under 40db gain, the 2.4's about 42db. |

The LSY is the one Alcatel I have not seen first hand.
Next week we start the turnup of four new MDR-8000 sites for a customer. Yes, I am an Alcatel fanboy.

| RFS. Everything is RFS (waveguide, antennas, connectors, etc).
Alcatel must have some cozy deal with them. We havnt had any Andrew stuff come in for a while with our Alcatel orders, except for small antennas like the ones that we use for our MPR link.
Our rigger keeps complaining about how crappy all of the RFS stuff is compared to Andrew (maybe because his name is Andrew aswell). |

Cool. Yeah RFS is the MFG arm of Alcatel. Alcatel makes the radios and RFS makes the connecting components.
I think RFS stuff has its benefits. It really is just a matter of preference though on the part of the installation tech.
All of the dehydrators we use are RFS, as well as all of the components. In the past I have quoted Andrew and RFS parts, it really is a tossup, but I try and stick with RFS because it is what Alcatel prefers to use so yeah.....
For the radio stuff, I quote out Andrew.

There is a picture (albeit a bit fuzzy) in this thread: »New PoP install (more cable tieing)
At this stage we only have a single MPR based link. Hopefully more to come, they are nice radios. |
