Smartview

I'm on my fourth modem and 3rd antenna a parabolic grid. I have been having lots of disconnects or switching to 1rtt towers for no reason. I suspected sprint smartview. I currently have the Novatel Merlin EX720. I was able to find the original Novotel software for this modem. I uninstalled the Sprint Smartview and loaded up the Novatel software and was able to select EVDO only! It worked no more switching or disconnects. It was the Sprint Smartview causing all the problems.

Regards,
Danny

It's called the" Novatel connection manager for Windows".

Generally if the aircard comes with software/has software made for it, it's best to use that. For example, the Franklin CDU-680 that I use comes with Franklin Connection Manager; it works great through that, however Sprint SmartView doesn't work one bit with it.

Sprint MBB thru Millenicom Unlimited service - Franklin CDU-680 (with 32" omni) connected to a CTR-350; Linksys WRT-54G running DD-WRT in repeater mode one room away to cover the whole house in Wi-Fi.

Sprint Smartview is for Sierra devices only, I believe. The CDU has its own connection manager, as do most EVDO devices, and you MUST use the correct matching software for your device. If you change devices, be sure to uninstall the software for the old device FIRST, then plug in the new device and it should install its own software.

Hey Jeff, you may want to try "Watcher" from Sierra with that 598 you use. Nice config options. See it on my website.

Will do. I'll load it onto my laptop, since that's the unit that uses the Sierra as a USB device. The rest ot the time, which is most of the time, it's in a router so I suppose the Watcher program would be useless under those conditions, or is it?

useful only to set Sierra modems into EVDO Only mode - which current versions of SmartView cannot.

With a Cradlepoint you pretty much have a full range of data regarding the modem (signal/RSSI, HA settings, bandwidth used).

This signal strength data is NOT supported for Franklin CDU680 or Pantech UM175 devices using a Cradlepoint ... unfortunately.
