Siemens Gigaset SE565 dsl

Dear Sirs / ladies

Would you please help me regarding the Siemens Gigaset noted. I am unsure as to whether the Gigaset SE565 is a modem too or only a gateway and do not seem to be able to determine that from the Siemens webpage. I intend buying one over the inet and as a result I cannot inspect it (do not know of any shops carrying it in my area).

You assistance greatly appreciative of

Hi Doctor Olds,

Thanks for the reply but as I have had a look at the specification sheet on the Siemens webpage (after too much struggling to find the specs), I posted here as a last resort. The specifications as indicated by the copy of the prduct page unfortunately does not answer my question. I am a lay pc technician but the spec sheets are not THAT clear. It would say eg "• Broadband internet access support for ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and RE-ADSL" but does this mean that there is a modem built into the device or not?

Also, as we are on this toping I would appreciate it if you could indicate to me (if you are able to and know) which of the Siemens Gigaset products have a built in modem. I need to buy one as I am installing adsl, after deciding to switch from wireless (3.5G) to adsl. I have read extensively and found that no one solution works (as I should know through my lay experence working with pc's). I then settled on a Belkin, which I know makes good electronics products, for its specs (intermediate) and for its price (roughly SA Rands 600 - being about a US$80 modem/router). I never ordered this modem, though, as I am awaiting the line.

A couple of days later I was searching for something else on the i-net and came across the Siemens Gigaset range, which I then read the product description for. After looking at some of the further products in the range I read up on it and found the Siemens Gigaset site, which does not function as I should think it should as I cannot find a full range of products and have to google search a specific model item in order to find the item on the Siemens page. Nevertheless, I am interested in the range of products available in this category that Siemens make as Siemens makes good products.

Thus, to rephrase the question, please assist me re the modems / routers that Siemens have in their Gigaset range as I am unable to understand the product desciptions that they have added to their website.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanking you

Alec

Right on the 1st page I posted.

"With the Gigaset SE565 dsl gateway"

and it says "Broadband internet access support for ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+, and RE-ADSL"

If it says a DSL Gateway or ADSL Gateway that is a ADSL Modem and the newer ADSL Standards just tell you it can support ADSL2 and ADSL2+. The WAN Port is RJ11 for a telephone cord also tells you that it is a ADSL Modem as a Non-Modem Router aka a Stand Alone Router that does not have a ADSL Modem uses a RJ45 WAN Port aka Ethernet Port.

@Doctor Olds

Thanks for the reply. It solves my problem.

Would you be able to help me with the following: I do not know how to identify what is a secure modem / gateway / router / wifi device and noted a review on the Gigaset SX763 which showed a flaw in the security.

How do I know how to choose a modem taking security into account? Intention is to get a modem with Wifi (this is obviously where the problem would come in) and I would be prepared to exclude eg my cell telephone (S80 which would not be able to handle the highest level of security) in order to ensure non-bandwidth loss to hacking / stealing.

Would you please help.

Thank you, I really appreciate your help.

Alec

I don't use wireless so I cannot help with determining whether it is secure or not.

You'd have to seek that knowledge here:
