It hasn't been a problem with these speakers. They use neodymium magnets, which are less voluminous than traditional magnets. I typically don't bring the speakers and rack onstage--just the laptop and a stand--so the exposure is minimal.

As for screen real estate, the MacBook screen is small, but I had a 12" PowerBook before this, so I'm used to it. That's what Expose is for. :)

The MacBook does pretty much everything I need, and is pretty "green" (whatever that means... usage isn't the problem, it's how the power is produced). I do music now and then, so when I practice or have a gig, it comes off the stand and runs my live rig. For recording, my bandmate has the high-end Apple Mac Pro / Apogee gear, so I go there. :)
