[cable] Linksys BEFCMU10v4 virsus Motorola SB5101

I own a Motorola SB5101 which is on line and a Linksys BEFCMU10v4 which I used when I lived in South Florida and was in storage. The BEFCMU10 was originally on the Adelphia Network but was transferred by Comcast to their network when Comcast bought Adelphia out. I want to replace the SB5101 with the BEFCMU10, so I can use the SB5101 at another location.

When I lived in South Florida I originally had a SB5100 on line. Unfortunately the SB5100 had problems dealing with a weak signal. I replaced the SB5100 with the BEFCMU10. After replacing the SB5100 I had less problems with drop outs. The BEFCMU10 seemed to have a better RF front end.

In another post in the Linksys forum it was reported that both the SB5101 and BEFCMU10v4 modems use the same chip set. I am trying to determine if the BEFCMU10 is equal or better than the SB5101.

I own both the SB5101 & BEFCMU10 v4. They indeed use the same Broadcom chipset. They perform identically. The one advantage with the Linksys is that it provides more diagnostic info than the Motorola (i.e. provisioning info, etc.) & it does not need periodic firmware updates.

Johkal: The only modems that I had experience with on the same network (Adelphia in South Florida) is the SB5100 and the BEFCMU10v4. Would you know if the SB5100 had the same chip set as the BEFCMU10v4. The BEFCMU10v4 seemed to have better immunity to problems with low signal levels. I am trying to figure out if I obtained better results with the BEFCMU10v4 because of the chip set was better or that the RF front end of the Linksys was superior to the SB5100.

Thanks

The SB5100 has a different chip set. A broadcom, but different.
