[General] Anyone else having trouble with FTP?

I can't FTP my website for updating. Alltel first pointed the finger at my hosting service, but after a friend tried with no problem, they finally admitted they had a few other complaints. As best I can tell it is related to whether or not passive mode is used. I can connect with ftp.microsoft.com (for example) which probably uses passive mode, but not to my site's FTP server which uses active mode only.

Alltel's tech support says they don't understand what's causing it, but they're working on it. I can understand that response as the tech support agent did not even know what "FTP" was.
