nwrickert :
I also have a westell 6100 from Verizon and my bellsouth dsl is xtreme with a static IP.
It should be possible.

I'm not sure how BellSouth (AT&T) provides the static IP. If they are assigning it via PPPoE, then a static IP is just like any other IP, except that you are always assigned the same IP.

Assuming the above is how the IP is assigned, then your 6100 gets the IP, and your computers on your LAN all share that IP, in the sense that the 6100 does IP masquerading (a form of NAT). So you will see IPs of 192.168.1.* on your LAN, but the external world will see you as always using the same IP.

I don't have a 6100 to check, so I am going by the settings for my 2200 and 6100. There should be a section of the modem advanced configuration menu for a static IP. I think you can assign a specific IP address there (needed if not assigned over PPPoE), and you can set the modem to share that public static IP with one machine on your LAN.
--
AT&T Uverse; Zyxel NBG334W router (behind the 2wire gateway); openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.14

nwrickert : Normally, you would browse to http://192.168.1.1/ to get to the configuration page. If it asks for a password, then that would be the password that you previously used with verizon. If all else fails, hold in the reset button for 15 seconds, and try again. That changes the Westell administrative password to "password" and resets everything to factory defaults.
--
AT&T dsl; Speedstream 5100b modem; Zyxel NBG334W router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.14
