| How to keep Actiontec R1524SU connected?
I want to monitor a remote site (video) via DSL. I found an old R1524SU that works fine, but it seems to drop the connection after a couple of days (no problem reconnecting manually though). Is there something I can do to keep it connected without having to travel to the site to reconnect it? (I'd assume that "get a new modem would be a solution - other ideas would be welcome since I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible.)
Thanks! |

| reply to zvsmedia Do you have remote mgmt set up?
not sure if my situation is the same, but sounds like it is close. My modem will disconnect after about 5 or 6 days. If I log into the modem remotely I can see the WAN status is disconnected. If I hit the connect button, it will just sit there trying to connect. However, I go under the Config/Setup link and just "next" through all the screens and it reboots the modem at that the end, which reconnects my modem.
I should replace modem, just have more pressing things |

| reply to daveinpoway Any suggestions for maker/model numbers? I've seen a lot of the R1524s around, but nothing newer.
I also came up with a Speedstream 5260, which is *just* a modem (so my router could prompt it to reconnect...). I tried the suggestions posted here to login into the 5260 with no luck. All lights do go on and show green (good!), but that's as far as I can get. |

| reply to dslhlpr Mine is a little more cooperative; it will reconnect from the status page. Unfortunately the modem is at a completely seperate location (across town), so with the modem disconnected there's no way to login to it, right?
I'll try enabling remote mgt. I've just been using logmein to access a local computer to reconnect the modem (I'm trying to transition from cable HDI to DSL for cost reasons). |

| reply to zvsmedia Since most ADSL modems can be used with any ISP if you set up the proper VPI/VCI, look for Speedstream 5100 B (5 LED's on the front), 4100 and 4100 B. The Actiontec GT701 and GT704 come in Qwest versions, but, again, a Verizon or non-ISP-specific version can be made to work. |
