| No, their service does not allow it. And with their high latency as well, it really wouldn't be worth it. You are better off with your current ISP and a magicjack. -- IT Related Blogging »www.michaelgossett.me |

| reply to JoeG4 as noted, their service is "specific" to their network.
As to using VOIP with CLEAR? Yeah, the latency is a little higher than Comcrap, but, my VIATALK has been rock solid on this service. My wife was on a call with her best friend last night for 90 minutes and not one 'glitch' that she'd reported to me frequently when we were tih comcrap... |

| reply to JoeG4 My Vonage doesn't work. I can hear, but the poor people i call hear constant drop outs. Look at my attchment of COX vs. Clear for ping (latency) and speed. I have 3 bars on thre wimax modem and its in the window, they are older too soo the glass is not that new coated stuff. The USB adapter works good on the go, but the home gateway is a huge compromise, I mean +200 ms ping time! F*ck ME!!! over ten times that of COX. My worst DSL ping was 50ms. at my old house. |

| reply to JoeG4 I asked a rep at the Clear store in one of our malls, he said noway would the adapter work outside the network. I call BS! not only is their DNS available to users on COX in Vegas, but the new clear ATA adapter I bought at BBC for cheap talked to their network when I plugged it into COX cable modem. I asked the rep about getting service and taking it with on trips. My Vonage works this way, and so would magic jack. "No it can;t OHHHH our service is wayyy better, sign up wit hour voice service" AHH yah right..... I do my own research not take slippery sales guy at his word. Remember that saying "Buyer Beware"? Well after being in the electronics industry all my working life I can say every year that saying rings more true. "Customer service in this country is DEAD" -author unknown 2005 |

| reply to JoeG4 Ok. I have clear I have had VoiP in my home for years. First LINGO, then Sunrocket, now viaTalk.
When I was on Comcast, the VoiP service was sketchy. My wife would complaint constantly. Comcast's network near us seemed to throttle us to half of what the rated speeds should be (and we don't use limewire, bit torrent, etc. at our house so it should not be "throttling" - I think it was just bad network engineering...). When we first put in Clear, the viaTalk stuff was not working really any better. Called ViaTalk, had them access the ATA directly, and over a day or 2 they tuned it.
Now I can have 2 incoming/outgoing voice lines, can download and upload at the same time.
Not sure how far from a clear tower that we are, but I have 4/5 bars most times and get between 3-5m down, almost 1m up consistently.
Thanks Clear. Keep up the good work.. |
