anon posted : Seams like my issue may have been different from the one you where having. When I got a hold of FairPoint yesterday they had just fished replacing their router in my area. For the first time in 4 months or so I had a good connection during the ~7:30 - ~11:30 time frame. I hope it stays :)

anon posted : Are your speeds still where they should be?

I have been having the same issue but it's been going on for 4 or 5 months now. Last week they also told me they had "Rebuilt the circuit" in my area. The day time speeds seam to be fine now, they were decent before and not the issue. But from ~7:30 to ~11:30 each night my Ping and speeds go to crap, ~600ms ping and ~0.8 down with ~0.4 up. I have there 3mb package.

msboucha posted : Hey everyone-

Just an update: I called Fairpoint Tech Support at Noon today (with no wait time) and suggested that the circuit may need some adjusting at the DSLAM since the speed were slow during high traffic times. The representative said she would escalate my ticket right as it went in - within 4 hours the issue had been resolved and a Fairpoint Technician had called to let me know he adjusted the circuit and to let them know if further adjustments were necessary. My connection speeds appear to be back up to where/if not better than they were before.

Thanks again for all your comments.

-M

mouseferatu posted : Although it is technologically illogical, Tom, the same thing is occurring on their fiber network in a fairly widespread area here.
[speed/latency] Fairpoint DSL slow in the evening?

msboucha posted : Hey everyone,

I have 3Mbps Down/756Kbps Up DSL from Fairpoint. The service has been solid for nearly a year - Brand new copper from the Demarc to the modem. I also have an outdoor DSL POTS Splitter filtering the lines right at the demarc. The litespan is about 1300 feet from the house - I can almost see it. As of recent (last few weeks?) the connection is slow as mud inthe evening. Upload speeds are fairly steady - tests have always run about 700Kbps and continue to for the most part. Download speeds which have been steady at 2.8Mbps for the last year are now dropping down to 200Kbps.

I've tested remotely during the day and speed results are back up to where they should be. Tests later in the evening (after 11 PM) show speeds back up to normal ranges. I connected directly to my modem with the laptop using PPPoE settings in Windows (modem is in bridged mode) and always reports speeds that are up at the correct level, even when tests elsewhere report otherwise.

Any ideas here? I'm thinking that litespan is getting saturated - too many customers sharing the bandwidth they are pumping over it? ....though that doesn't explain my modem speed reports. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks!
