I came here to post and suggest the same thing, and found this thread where this was already suggested.

I am constantly having to click back to the beginning see who the OP was/is.. especially in long(er) threads.

It would be VERY helpful if the background or anything of the OP's post & replies where visually different. Different color background either at left (only) and/or the reply area.. even slightly would be enormously helpful.
