My ISP is comcast. <br>Messages with attachments or exceeding a paragraph or two fail on sending on the first try. After the failure alarm sounds, I can invariably send it successfully by highlighting the queued message and selecting "send immediately". <br>An annoyance rather than a fatal problem. Incoming mail continues to be received with rare interruptions.]]></description>

I just wasted 30 minutes chatting with someone at Earthlink who made me test out sending emails and then told me to resend all of my emails (that are stuck in my Outlook Outbox) through Web Mail directly. 10 emails that would then be sent twice to my customers! All I wanted to know is when this would be fixed and never got an answer. Ugghhh!]]></description>

Some kind of server issue is my guess, but not access list level since you would not be able to connect moments later. If it were an access list by Domain or IP issue, you would never connect AM or PM until the list was restored. I didn't see that happening. Plus it affected all connections as even a poster on another ISP was getting the same time outs as us when trying to check their POP mail. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/836861"><b>ps56k</b></A> : yeah... you might say Legacy...<br><br>I first had dialup Internet service back in 1994 <br>with a company called "Spry - Internet In A Box",<br>and the domain was called "interserv.com".<br>It was one of the software packages that had the dialer, <br>the TCP/IP stack, the Eudora email program, etc....<br><br>I think then in 1998 the company was bought by Mindspring, <br>and I've been here ever since - going from their dialup plan - to just using the Premium Email service (paid mailbox) since I went with the local telco ISDN, then to DSL...<br><br>So for me - now it's just the POP3 server - which until recently has been working just fine.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/836861"><b>ps56k</b></A> : I have been having the same problems with my POP3 server - pop.interserv.com - 199.174.114.71 - <br><br>Easy way to test is with a DOS command window, <br>and just enter the telnet 110 command.....<br>BTW - ignore any email program changes requested from support, <br>just use the "telnet 110" test as it will eliminate "email program" issues, which of course aren't part of the problem.<br><br>telnet (your server name)  110<br>ie ->  telnet pop.interserv.com 110 <br><br>My Ping times are about 63ms - and I can run a monitor all day long with no changes.... so the server is up & running fine,<br>it's the "application" that is having a problem.<br><br>I have contacted (via chat) support every couple of days, and yeah... they can see the same problem, and nothing...<br><br>It seems to appear around noon CST, and stays untill late in the day CST.  Sure looks like a server or bandwidth loading problem that builds as the west coast wakes up.<br><br>I can use Webmail to see my email, but it's a pain...<br>Of course, all my other POP3 service accounts work just fine... <br><br>Would suggest for those posting to this thread, <br>to include a couple of items for comparison:<br><br>1. POP3 server name <br>2. Server IP address (from a Ping)<br>3. My current ISP is Comcast and it works just fine.<br>I too experienced the Web-mail failure on 10/01/2009 but Web-mail currently works even when Eudora fails.<br><br>Today I sought chat assistance and had the following experience:<br>1. A quick brush-off .. "It's comcast.net's fault"<br>2. When I persisted I complied with the downloading of a support Active-X that gave the chat-person full access and control of my computer (!)<br>3. He then checked out the Eudora settings, adding the Submission Port 587 to the settings.<br>During the session Eudora timed out about 70% of the time that a Ctrl-M was issued (by me) for new messages. The chat-person acknowledged that "I had a problem " and suggested that last refuge of support scoundrels: "reinstall your Eudora" .. hey why not format the whole drive!! I declined.<br><br>So they are useless and remain silent about even acknowledging such a widespread problem.<br><br>Query: How many of my fellow sufferers are connecting to their Earthlink E-mail by a foreign ISP?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/184052"><b>dlathem</b></A> : The time out demon has struck early today..I began getting it before 10am local time....and then as I write this I begin to get email again.<br><br>Doc....I have noticed that if I get timeouts for an hour or so, if I send myself email from another account and then immediately have Eudora check my mindspring mail...it will connect and push out all the other email that has not been delivered.<br><br>I contact ELM Customer non support every day by chat and they type the same thing out of their notebooks every day.  Somehow I do not believe that my case has been elevated to priority status.<br><br>This issue first showed up for me four weeks ago yesterday.  If they cannot figure out what the problem is in that length of time they need to get out of the business...some would say they are already out of the business.<br><br>In any event, I am now ready to call another DSL provider and begin talks with them.<br><br>Since the Diwali celebration begins in India on Saturday I do not suspect too much more work will be put into solving this problem.]]></description>

The EL servers are working properly, what have they done to the MS servers?<br><br>I did notice one thing, if I click Stop using Mail Washer (older version 1.32) when it gets stuck on the first MS server (it checks 4 EL and 4 MS addresses) and then hit Check Mail, it will eventually get all the responses, but it takes 5 to 9 retries.<br><small>--<br><A HREF="http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/ford-gt/">What&#146;s the point of owning a supercar if you can&#146;t scare yourself stupid from time to time?</a></small>]]></description>

But alas, just after 11am local time the error began to show up again.  I just contacted ELM tech support to make sure that I know that they know they still have a problem.  <br><br>I wonder if some accountant put their server room on a tariff that allows the electric supplier to interrupt service?  Either that or someone is going to buy vanilla ice cream at about the same time everyday;-)  They should buy pistachio and we would not have this problem.]]></description>

I have my timeout set at 60 seconds.  Funny, about 10 minutes later it found the pop server and downloaded one incoming email. That is what is strange about it.  When I get on the computer at about 6:45am there are no problems receiving mail.  Usually about 11am to 12 noon I will begin to have problems with time outs and then long about 3 pm ..usually..the issue disappears.  Do they need an additional air conditioner in the server room for the noon day heat or what?]]></description>

I am hoping this issue has been resolved.  <br><br>I would say I am disappointed in how long it took ELM to address and then fix this issue, but this is what I expect now. <title>Earthlink EMail Problems</title>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/184052"><b>dlathem</b></A> : For the past week I have had problems reaching the pop.mindspring.com mail server.  For a few hours each day (since September 23rd) I either get a time out error or server could not be contacted error.  After a few hours this goes away.<br><br>I have been contacting ELM support every day and either I am told there is a problem and they are working on it or I am told there is not a problem and my machine is the problem.<br><br>I use Eudora for email.  I find it interesting that I have absolutely no problems with the other two email accounts I run off this same install of Eudora.  I also find it interesting that the errors only happen around noon each day.  The morning and afternoon and night is just fine.  It comes and goes.<br><br>This morning ELM announces they have major email problems.  Has anyone else had these types of problems....or, am I the only one left using mindspring AKA earthlink.<br><br>I only use chat now because their phone customer support is just too difficult to understand because they do not speak English.]]></description>
