They did post over here: »Callcentric Down?
Seems like there is so little traffic on DSLReports for CallCentric that even CallCentric doesn't know they have their own forum on here.
Since we don't know what went wrong, there is no sense in trying to figure out what else they should do. Personally, expecting POTS type service at VoIP rates will never happen. There are many ways this could have been handled better, but in the big scheme of things this outage was trivial. Any one that depends upon a single comm channel for their connection will experience some down time. Even POTS goes down during stressful times (i.e. earthquakes). |

Having been in support for many years it amazes me how often I have to explain it's not possible for a down computer to send an alert it is down. Now if they want redundant servers or outside monitoring, that's another $ituation. BTW, the notice posted by CC at »Callcentric Down? says they have systems monitored and they were on the problem post-haste. |

CallCentric is one of the truly major business VoIP providers throughout the US, as well as supplier of other telecommunication services. They rarely ever have outages ... and the very few that have occurred are resolved in short order. They have a major office in the Wall Street area of NYC ... with a whole group of executives and technical and support staff.
CallCentric owns most of its own infrastructure including phone switches to make SS7 connections back into the PSTN at their location. They also operate their own network hardware that connects to the Internet using their own BGP ASN.
Because CallCentric operates a most of its own telecommunications infrastructure, their own people can resolve issues without needing to involve other vendors. And if an upstream supplier is at fault, CC has more clout in getting a quick fix.
The idea that CallCentric is a "small time" operation is preposterous. And, incidentally, all the speculation in the past that CC was based in Russia is equally silly. The offices are in NYC.
Just look at the posts in this thread ... from whiners who upon experiencing one rare short period of downtime are ready to crucify one of the best VoIP providers out there. Would some of you "complainers" mind telling us which provider, large or medium or small in size ... including PSTN ... has not had occasional (or for that matter frequent) downtime. I really would love to know the identity of the "perfect" VoIP provider.
Those of us who have participated in the BBR VoIP Forums over the last many years are ROTFLOAO at the naiveté shown by some of the newcomers.
OK! Who is going to post a smart retort that I must work for CallCentric. Those who know me well are well aware that I am a gastroenterologist ... with no fiduciary ties to CC. |
