[Need Info] Open Source Document Management system

Looking for some input from anyone who may have some insight into some of the open source DMS solutions available now days. I'm trying to put one together for viewing blueprints and customer related data. Just started installing Alfresco but not thinking this is going to do well. It as many require many 3rd party applications as well to operate properly.

So far I have installed:
MySQL
Tomcat
Apache
PHP

If you have experience in this and can offer some insight please let me know.
Thanks,
Bob

Looked into this about a year ago. Alfresco seemed to be the only usable DMS out there at the time. And 'usable' was questionable.

Ultimately we went with a wiki solution, albeit not an open one.

Have you considered plone? It's more of a cms but I suppose you could use it in the same manner.

»plone.org/

These aren't open source . .but

Sharepoint. (microsoft)

Enterprise Vault. (symantec)

Documentum. (emc)

... or a custom solution

Depending what features are needed, I'm not sure that I would recommend Plone as a DMS solution; it's much more focused on content management, than on document management. While it's possible to upload files of any type, files aren't treated as full-class content types in many ways. Though of course, if you want to dive into Python and Zope (the web development framework), you could probably force it into submission

I'll look into Plone and see if there is something that may work for us. Nothing else has come up since the original post. I'm still searching. Thanks for your suggestions.
Still open for more

I know that many companies use something like Plone to manage their content and documents.

There is also Vignette :

Which I don't believe is open source, but alot of people use it. I just suggested Plone because I've had to port content from Vignette over to Plone and know it's pretty flexible and might fit your needs.

You might look at Owl. I did a few years ago and it was fairly rough, but it may have matured since then.

Currently testing KnowledgeTree. They have a open source version that I just started working with. No real results yet. I'll keep you posted..

Please do! I occasionally need to recommend a "real" DMS over a CMS and it'd be nice to be able to have a few open source alternatives to present to folks
