| questions about pop, central office, & interconnectivity
considering that the big 3 main phone companies (qwest, verizon, at&t) all criss cross the US with their own copper cabling over telephone poles, thus providing network data and phone service to everyone. how do the smaller players connect to one another? i assume with fiber that's just buried underground?
and if the smaller telcos connect to each other with fiber, do they have their own central offices, or can they ONLY have what is considered to be a POP? which can ONLY be located within one of the big 3s central office? just some things that have always stumped me. |
