| reply to leer Re: [Spoiler] Stargate Universe kinda sucked...IMO...
This last episode wasn't that good. Besides the return of the Sand Alien Thing, there wasn't a lot happening. I thought it was kind of odd that after the Sand Alien helped them find water on the Sand Planet, and seemed like it was trying to communicate with them on the ship, that they would maroon it on the Ice Planet. There are some nice conflicts emerging between Rush and Eli, and between that one Soldier who was put in the brig and the Colonel. And I'm not missing the gun battles and enemy aliens much. -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." - H. L. Mencken

Did we believe they wouldn't find water? Don't think so.
Do we want to see more sex? Probably.

| I actually expected them to start killing off the "unknowns" a lot sooner, and in bigger catastrophes. That one guy in the corridor was basically just an expendable asset ("redshirt" ) to convey the danger of the situation. There'll probably be a few more in the coming weeks. -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." - H. L. Mencken

1 edit | reply to leer I'm amazed now that they have power, the stories are not more about exploring the ship, which must have survival assets for when the ancients were gonna retire.
I guess it's cheaper to shoot episodes in deserts and glaciers, then design more set pieces and CGI effects.
Or maybe there's an episode coming up called "Arboretum" ? that makes sense |

| I liked it too Octavean, I am really liking the whole series. After reading most of the posts here I was beginning to think I was one of the only ones that thought it was a pretty good show. I never really got to watch the earlier SG series but am in the process of catching up through DVD. SGU seems to me like a good evolution and is going to be more than meets the eye.

One thing to think about, the life form(s) drained Destinys water supply quite considerably within a fairly short period of time. translocation of these life forms from a desert plaint to a planet with abundant water (albeit solid) would likely be everything they could possibly desire. Its latterly all you can eat,
.and those little buggers can apparently consume a lot. They seem to consume water and multiply so presumably they can go fornicate themselves silly now. There numbers may depend on the resources necessary for life so a major limiting factor has just been lifted.
Its worth noting however that translocation of life forms from their indigenous locations to alien locations can have catastrophic consequences.
Keep in mind that particular NCO was popping prescription pills a few episodes earlier. In all likelihood, his supply of meds are going to run dry sooner or later.
Rush, hes just not a people person. Either he just hasnt got the skill set due to losing it or he never had it. Rush is bound to rub just about anyone the wrong way. He also seem to be the sort to sacrifice his life and possibly the lives of others just to unlock the secrets of Destiny. |

| I personally like the whole premise, being millions of miles away in uncharted territory with a busted ship how cool is that?!? I think it leaves a lot of open avenues for the show to take as well which adds to the potential for me. BTW I also loved Star Trek: Voyager so that might explain a little about by perspective.

1 edit | reply to leer I think I know why people here are bummed about SGU. It's the background music - it's the same somber type Vangelis rifts they would play all during Blade Runner.
Maybe if SGU had more uplifting music and put the lights up a bit, more here would like it. |
