| reply to Octavean Re: [Spoiler] Stargate Universe kinda sucked...IMO...
said by Octavean :... Still I would have preferred if the stones were used sparingly or perhaps in some covert way to gain control of Destiny. Having the crew use them to visit loved one is more then just a little boring for me. I feel the same way. Also, it seems Chloe has visited Earth twice now, while some of the other crew members haven't visited at all. What's that about? Aren't the other people going to be pissed about that? I would be.
They haven't told us anything about the bad blood between Greer and Telford. I'm guessing Greer slugged him or something, but he had it coming. -- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." - H. L. Mencken

| reply to Octavean said by Octavean :I thought it was funny how Colonel Telford tossed Greer into a cell without much delay. They still havent told us exactly what he did to get tossed in the first time (I dont think) but I expect it was something to do with discipline It was mentioned in "Light". When Young was walking with Greer. How Greer decked Telford. Also that Young agreed he had it coming.
Why anyone would be following this Idiot Telford after this is a joke. Granted you have the chain of command. But considering what happens when Telford is present. I'm surprised that He doesn't leave the Medic or the Lieutenant in charge until Young is back in his body. All LDP's character has done is to antagonize anyone that could help, he doesn't listen to reason and has scores to settle. Otherwise he's just peachy (in a low life kinda way). |

| Yeah I remember that conversation (I think) but I guess I must of zoned out a bit because I though t that they were referring to the NCO that Greer had to knock out during the lottery.
The sad part is that there really are people like Telford in the military. They are perfectly willing to learn from mistakes that cost people their lives or physical wellbeing. |

| reply to leer LDP was one of the actors that made me want to watch this series to begin with, needless to say I don't like his character at all, so his being on the show no longer matters, maybe he can get killed off somehow in the future. That is if he will stick around in a situation he could get hurt in....
Did gain some more respect for Rush this week because of th e stunt he pulled though!

Find out next week on All My SG Universe(s)!!!

Yeah, I agree, when they divert from the what can really be considered SciFi they just start to lose me. My eyes roll back into my head and,

| I never read the whole thread. I stopped at page 4 and jumped to the end.
I give this series two seasons, max. That is, if they can keep the ratings but I seriously doubt that will happen so it will probably be done with after the first season. -- Tom |

| reply to Omega The whole show smells of Stargate mashed up with Star Trek Voyager and All My Children. Now all we need is some female character with a chest that can double as a flotation device in case of a water landing. Then the show will be complete with it's knock off of Voyager. -- Tom |

| I also found Voyager the worst of the Trek series. But at least Voyager had encounters with aliens, Borg, space anomalies, etc. So far all we have on Universe is one type of creature on the level of a swarm of bees. I find it to be more like Lost (which I had no interest in).
My interest level in SGU has been maintained enough to keep watching it, though, unlike FlashForward which I gave up in the middle of the third episode. If this gets any soapier or much more flashbacks/earth plots I will quit.
Here's another "unrealistically dumb character" thing. How many of you would do your wife with some other guy's unit? Not me, brother. You don't know where he's been for one thing. There are also considerations of what would go on in the wife's head about it. Her winding up with him one way or other is very predictable.
Some stranger, sure, if you didn't mind exposing the unwitting host to her problems ... Eli should have gone for it. -- Anthropogenic climate change has been debunked |

Now all we need is some female character with a chest that can double as a flotation device in case of a water landing. Then the show will be complete with it's knock off of Voyager. At the beginning of the thread I initially agreed with the Voyager analogy, however, I no longer do. In Voyager, it was a Federation ship piloted by a Federation crew. They new where they were, where they were going and how to get there. They had full unrestricted control of their ship and ultimately their destiny (no pun intended).
Conversely, in SGU, the ship is essentially alien (well ancient) or rather the crew is alien to the ship. They have no significant control over the ship and they most certainly are not masters of their own destiny (again, no pun intended but feel free to laugh if you wish). They probably dont know where they are or where they are going and even less of a clue as to how to get home.
Voyager was displaced by an entity whereas the crew from SGU evacuated due to an attack that could have claimed all of their lives (quasi disaster).
Voyager was probably one of the state of the art ships at the time whereas Destiny is a barely serviceable relic which is falling apart.
So no I dont see the similarity,
.not even a little save for the fact that there are ships involved in both cases.

However, let me quote the immortal words of the great Al Bundy (from Married With Children):
Id like to complain about the lack of hooters in this move
What Im trying to say here is that I dont think most guys want to see Love scenes on screen or whatever you want to call them without seeing a little something
And as such we havent seen anything. Wont likely see anything either so why bother with said scenes because it just comes off like a soap opera,... |
