|  [360] RROD from Left4Dead update?
i haven't played L4D in more than 3 months and this past Friday a couple of my friends wanted to go online and play this because of some recent dlc that just came out. i put the disc in my 360 and then a message came up saying that there was a download available for the game. i downloaded and installed the updated and then noticed my 360 would freeze during online game play (no red lights yet at this point). i then tried playing cod and got the same thing, the screen would freeze and i'd see the jagged lines across the screen, still no red lights at this point. i left my 360 shut off for about 20 minutes, powered it back on and then saw the dreaded rrod. i have a launch console and it ran perfect before i installed the l4d update. has anyone heard of a l4d update possibly rrod'ing a 360? i couldn't find anything definitive online. my 360 is definitely past the 3 year warranty and i read on ms's site that they will charge $100 to fix a rrod out of warranty 360. if that's the case i was thinking it might be better to just get an elite for around $200-ish from microcenter ($300 - $50 ms rebate - $50 microcenter gift card). i'd hate to pay ms $100 and wait a couple of weeks to fix my 360 and then have it rrod again. what do you guys think? thanks! |

| Sounds more like coincidence. I have three Xbox 360s that each got that update with no issue. I haven't heard from anyone about any relationship with your issue and the update.

When my launch console finally gave out in February I checked to make sure my HDD was still good, it was. Paid $200 + tax and got a new arcade console. But with this deal, I would strongly consider getting the elite console and just keep the HDD as a backup, as long as that's still good of course.
About the L4D update bricking the 360's that's the first time I've heard about that. I'll look around the internet and check in with a few friends. Hope to find more news on that soon.
Edit: Just reread the post and saw that you have another $50 rebate. Go for the elite console. |

hey guys, thanks for all of the info. i guess i'll chalk this one up to coincidence. just thought it was kind of odd that i got the rrod soon after i installed the l4d dlc. previous to that i was playing cod, mostly zombie mode, 3-4 times a week with no issues. i ended up getting the elite bundle this morning from microcenter. i just got home tonight and noticed that i got the older kung fu panda/indiana jones lego elite bundle and not the newer batman/pure elite bundle. do you guys know if both of these bundles use the same model of cpu? if the batman/pure bundle has a better cpu i'll return the one i bought today and get that one, only problem is that i don't remember seeing any of those at microcenter. thanks! |

| Open the little slot on the box that allows the scanner to pick up the S/N and check to see if it uses 12.1Amps. If it is then it's the current jasper model.
I checked around and I haven't found any mention of any of that update bricking anyone else's 360. Just a really bad coincidence I guess. Well, enjoy the new console |

| thanks laughing man. i just checked mine and it says "12V - 14.2A". the manufacturer date is also april 2008. i think i have a falcon and not a jasper. should i send this back? i read online that the falcon didn't really help with the rrod issue. thanks for checking around about my rrod and l4d dlc issue. |

| I definitely would return it for a Jasper model, I have one and it runs much smoother than my original Xenon model. Now you know what to check for it shouldn't be too hard to get one. Hopefully they will have one in stock, but it probably won't be in a bundle since it came out after that offer. |

| thanks again lm. guess this one is going back tomorrow. tomorrow is the last day for the $50 ms rebate. only thing is i only remember seeing 6 360's at microcenter and they were all the older kung fu panda/indiana jones bundles. if i get the 120gb elite 2009 holiday bundle is it guaranteed to be a jasper? i know this bundle just came out last week. if it's guaranteed to be a jasper then i'll order it tonight or tomorrow from amazon if microcenter doesn't have any. i hope microcenter doesn't hit me with any restocking fees. i haven't bought anything from them in a few years and don't know what their return policy is. |

| Your welcome, wish I better news for the rest of the post. None of it is guaranteed, bundles afaik are made with whatever stock is available at hand. Ordering online your chances between getting the Falcon and Jasper boards are pretty equal. Now most gaming stores (Game Stop in this area) are more stringent about the models they receive and are more likely to have the Jasper model in stock.
This is what I would do: go to the store, check to see if they had Jasper model in. If not, call a few local gaming stores to see if they have one in. I find it extremely hard that they wouldn't. In off the chance they don't, I would take the risk of ordering online, the games in that bundle sound better anyway. |

| i didn't know that the bundles are made with stock that they have on hand. i'm planning on returning the 360 with the falcon that i bought this morning sometime tomorrow, hopefully they'll have 1 360 jasper that i can exchange it for, if not i'll eat any restocking fees they hit me with. i'll check the gamespot a few doors down, hopefully they'll have a jasper. i'm not sure i want to roll the dice by ordering from amazon and ending up with another falcon. i'll keep you posted with any updates. thanks again for your help. |

| Guess I should have explained the bundles part more clearly. It isn't the store that makes the bundles, MS does with the stock they have on hand that hasn't been shipped out yet. This is probably why that bundle you bought had Falcon since MS was busy at the time pumping out Jasper units to normal retail since it just was released. So the Falcons sat in spare stock until they made that bundle. So I would hope their stock of Falcon has been depleted by now, but you never know.

| i ended up returning the 360 (falcon) at microcenter today, got hit with a restocking fee  because they didn't have any newer jaspers to exchange it with. i ended up getting an elite from ebgames, they didn't have the elite holiday bundle and today is the last day for the ms $50 rebate. i haven't opened it yet but i can see that the manufacture date is "2009-08-06" and i do so see "12.1A" instead of "14.2A". is my new 360 definitely a jasper? are there any other ways to tell if it's a jasper? thanks! |
