| I have been throttled by verizon per Millenicom.
I am going to have to quit the millenicom service. I was told today that my service has been throttled until November 1st despite it having been slow (.12-.2mbps) for the past three weeks. I am being throttled for over six weeks due to "high usage".
I had a bad microsoft update trash my laptop which required downloading all the updates. That put me over the top. I haven't been watching videos, I haven't been downloading a lot of anything. I mainly use it for stock/options trading. I guess I will be going back to wild blue. Good thing I left the dish up on the roof! |

I've went over several months, and have received no emails or throttles . . . .
Did they state your specific usage? what is "high usage"?
Just curious. |

| the message header does say . . .
"I have been throttled by verizon per Millenicom."
I think he realizes Verizon did it . . . . . .

| reply to compuguybna compuguybna, I didn't get any notification at all. I have been running slow for three weeks, I thought it might have been my antenna set-up because I tried the unlimited (unsuccessfully) & had to adjust my Yagi antenna trying to get it to work.
I found out I was throttled after I contacted support due to the speeds. They had to look into the problem & promised a call back. A woman called me to tell me I am throttled until November.
I have nothing against Millenicom, if I could have gotten unlimited to work I would have stayed with them.
I can understand Verizons efforts to keep bandwidth use at a minimum. I am going to help them by cancelling my account in order to free up some of the bandwidth for them.
Back to wild blue. |

| I have been running my modem through a wireless network so I didn't have the usage meter working. I am sure I went well over the five gig with the vista updates (including the service packs) & using the net every day for over ten hours a day.
I never watch videos or look at porn ect.... (things that use a lot of bandwidth) Mostly just the stock/options quotes with streaming charts. |

| reply to Wartrace Anyone else think it's odd that some customers only get throttled for a set period of time due to their high usage, but others are just told that their account is being closed? This kind of inconsistency is what's maddening about Millenicom's practices. If the ones who get canceled are being kicked because their usage is even higher than those who are being throttled, Millenicom should make that clear. I've said it before, but Mcom needs to work on transparency and someone there really should take a good, hard look at their customer relations policies. And yes, I know it's Verizon's decision, but since we're paying our money to Millenicom, it happens to be their responsibility to fully explain that decision. And another thing - being throttled for weeks without a notification, having to call and ask them to look into it just to find out what's going on... That's just ridiculous. Maybe they need to take a look at their contract with the carrier and try to persuade Verizon to provide them with a list showing who's being throttled. -- Core2Quad Q9450 @ 3.4GHz, XFX 780i SLI mobo, 2x MSI 8800GT OC in SLI, 4GB Patriot Viper DDR2-1066, Samsung 20x optical, Samsung F1 750GB HDD, Antec TP3 650 watt PSU, CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case, Vista Home Premium 64 bit... |

| I dont think anyone knows the limits for when throttling or cancellation happens.
One user said he's getting kicked off because he "EXTREMELY REPEATEDLY" went over, yet he didn't have any details, nor was he provided any.....
One user says he's been throttled, but then again, wasn't provided any specific usage data to trigger this.
SOOOOOOOOO, OH MILLENICOM GOD . . . .
(1) at what point of usage data do we get throttled?
(2) at what point of usage data do we get cancelled?
(3) at what usage data is "acceptable".. I've been over 5gb several months since the cap.
Inquiring minds wanna know... |

One got throttled......One got cancelled....Both were from Verizon thru Millenicom.
Guess it depends on the usage stats......
But its still like an "invisible cloud" hangin' over you. |

| reply to Wartrace Odd twist- Millenicom called me Monday evening & told me they did some further investigation & determined that my modem may be bad. They are sending a new one & I will no longer be throttled once the new modem arrives.
It sounded as if they were having other aacounts with trouble & have started investigating verizon's claims of over use. |

| reply to Wartrace A heads-up on certain devices. Namely the Franklin CDU-680. IF you are in a fringe area this modem will ramp up the power and heat will factor in. This will eventually cause that modem to fail and disconnect frequently. IF you are in an area that has good Sprint coverage this will not occur.
I have had to return a customers CDU680 to Millenicom for this reason. Using a Sierra Wireless Compass 597, 598 or Novatel U727 or 760 solves the problem. They do not have this issue.
