MILLENICOM disabled my current device BEFORE I received my new one.......Did they do you this way Wartrace?
Yes they did.
I have been escalated to Verizon's level three help (whatever that is).
They show me running normal on their network. I am still stuck at .2mbps. I have tried it on a different computer. I have tried it near the tower. Tried it near a different tower.
All I can say is nobody knows why I am so slow. I am going to give them a chance to fix it, they are really trying. |

1 edit | I am beginning to think I am on a truly OVERLOADED tower....Seems to be worse during the evenings and late night.... Its almost 6am, and it's fine . . . So, the device might not be the issue......I believe some other folks in this area are using the same broadband connectivity (as their is no other way than satellite). See, speed looks Ok in the AM.

| I've determined an overloaded tower at "peak hours".... or throttling "tower-based" during these hours.
If the connection was BAD all the time, I would not be getting speeds like this in the am times. The PM times are beginning to be worse then Hughesnet! :-\
I do not believe that many people have started using this tower. I did used to get about 800Kbps in the evening. Now I'm lucky to get 200Kbps.
But better than dialup, and surfing at those slow speeds is still better than satellite.
GRRRRR

| Verizon is already aware of the issue due to a trouble ticket thru Millenicom. Of course, they say "Ok, all good on our end"...
I can't really call Verizon myself, because my device is thru Millenicom.
Even if they did find an issue of overcrowding, I am not sure they'd immediately rememdy it. This is a small rural town. I'm sure they'd have to do a cost analysis of that.
For now, I'll just take what every speed I can get I guess. Better Than dialup, faster than satellite.
My sister has 3mpbs DSL just 4 miles up the road...Dead zone here.

| Looks like after some tinkering with the settings and location, I've boosted speed and signal...
Its been gloomy, foggy, and rainy here for about a week..Yesterday, it was clear skies (but cold).
Last night, I moved the modem around the room (I bought a USB 10 foot extension cable).....
I kept having TWO tower hooking onto my ACTIVE P/N...Not good... slow speeds that way.
Finally, I sit the modem in the window, on the middle seal, facing towards the direction of the tower..... Signal went down to 71 (never got that before)..... But PER was high???????? Next, since someone had suggested an "aluminum foil antenna" made out of a box cut @ 90 degrees....but that would not fit, rest in the window. So, next, I cut about a 12inchx12inch piece, folded it in 1/2 where it did not touch the modem, and Taped it to the glass. WOW! Signal down to 67, ec/io (0), and Per (0).
I'm not getting highest speeds, but they DO remain consistent.. No more down into the 100's 300. Average about 900Kbps now. |

| Yes, only ONE active p/n now (with the alum foil).
the "candidate" also dropped (the one that was piggybacking)..
Also the tx/rx power has improved (sorta like an amplifier).
Amazing what a 1 ft x 1 ft piece of foil will do. i think we've all tried everything we can think of.
TODAY at the tower. all back to normal...and getting about 1.2mbps at home.
would love this tower speed all the time!! |

| These are about the best readings I have been able to obtain . . .
Ec/Io stays at 0 or -1 Per stays at 0 90% of the time or so.
signal came down to 70-73 from 78 always (moving it to the windows and putting alum foil behind it)
TX power has went from -1 to -19 (improvement)... (again I think the alum foil made this improvement). |

Just wanted to reboot this thread again. Has anyone gone over the 5G usage limit and have you been throttled? Also by what amount did you go over the limit? For the days and days every time I tried to check my usage I only received the no data message. I checked again today and up popped my usage, it reported on 11-1-09 usage was 4.6357G and will be reset on 11-2-09. |
