| Speed test shows Full Upload but not utilizing it
i just singed back up for fios and have the 25/15 deal....everytest i do at »myspeed.visualware.com shows
DL-26.0 Mbps (of about 67.2 Mbps) UL-24.6 Mbps
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 26051968 bps Upload speed: 24646456 bps Download quality of service: 99 % Upload quality of service: 98 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum TCP delay: 11 ms Average download pause: 1 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 12 ms Average round trip time to server: 12 ms Estimated download bandwidth: 67200000bps Route concurrency: 2.5794597 Download TCP forced idle: 41 % Maximum route speed: 43690000bps
however i cannot achieve an upload speed past 1600kbps or around 12-13 Mbps...i used my friends news server account which can easily support 100 Mbps speeds+ so i know its not that
any ideas why this might be?...could it be some kind of QOS setting?...im on windows vista SP2 |

I get 26+ Mbps download at speakeasy...but never get over 10 Mbps upload at speakeasy...so even if im not getting this "fluff" im still 5Mb under where i should be at 15..but myspeed.com shows me at 24ish on the upload
what the hell is going on?...cud the backbone failure in the northeast have anything to do with it? |

| I have the same problem dark night and my speeds to speedtest.net and all the speakeasy servers got slow as well as some others. I used to hit 25 to 30 mb upload on almost all the servers I used to test on but now half of them are 10 to 20 mb andI still see others hitting 30+ mb on them so it has to be the route from me to the servers. Its been like this a few weeks now |

| This is strange. I was going to post something about this, too.
I have had 10/2 for several years now and Tuesday I am getting FIOSTV installed. My Internet will be raised to 25/15. Today (yes Sunday) they called me for the 5th time to confirm my Install date, etc. During our conversation they said...what the heck we will bump you to 25/15...just give us an hour.
It worked but speakeasy speed test just does not show a very good upload speed. In Seattle I get >26MB D/L, but upload caps at 5MB...sometimes a little higher. LA is better, but still no more than 10MB UP...usually a little less. So, can it be that we are just trying to push too much to these speed test sites? Any way to find a good test site? |

1 edit | reply to Dark Knight I've found the most reliable speed tests to be at speedtest.net. Dark Knight....try the NY or Clifton, NJ, server. MPSAN....they have a couple of servers in your neck of the woods too.
Dark Knight....what happens if you upload to multiple connections at the same time? I find that using FTP I max out at about 200 kB/s up. Using WinSCP I can double that....400 kB/s up. On one connection. But if I upload multiple files at the same time I can always get in excess of my 35/20 upstream plan. The attached screen grab is a typical example.
That tells me that FiOS is doing it's job and if I get less than my pipe should allow on a single connection to any server, it's due to factors outside of Verizon's control.
edit: BLUNTED....I haven't noticed what you described out here on the Island. Speed tests seem nominal day and night. Here are two I just ran:
This may be a dumb question but what OS are you guys running? If it's WinXP, have you run the FiOS optimizer? The registry needs to be tweaked for higher upstream speeds. |

| I posted some of my speeds in another thread but I know I can hit 30.3 mb upload on a good server on the 25/15 plan. All of the speedtest.net servers are slow for me and I only get about 21 mb max to any of them but used to hit 27+ up on most of them. I know my routes are slow now cause even the lone quality tests shows the ny server to me sucks and has high pings and packetloss. |

1 edit | reply to Dark Knight That is odd...I have a different sort of issue, though it really isn't a problem...Speedtest.net generally shows me at 25/15 (rated speed). But visualware shows me at 25/25. I have had sustained rates of 3.1 megs for both up and download, which I think is about right for 25, but I'm not positive....I'm not great at the conversions... |

25Mbps / 8 = 3.1MBps
FAQ has been updated. »Verizon Online FiOS FAQ
Visualware says 16.9/16.9, varies depending which server I pick Argonne NDT says 24.3/24.6 Speakeasy NY says 25.8/13.0 VZ FiOS says 25.6/25.2
All this on a 25/15 connection at 5:30 a.m. |

| Fios Speed Optimizer on Vista SP2? I don't think you needed to do that. You should have reached your download speed without optimizing. As far as uploading is concerned, I think there are issues, but it's the OS.

| reply to Dark Knight I don't see any reason to roll back your optimized settings, unless, of course, you want to try it just for troubleshooting purposes.
I just uploaded some more files to my server which is located in San Francisco. Upstream is still fine here this morning, as shown by the screen grab above. Tracerts are all normal too, as are pings and packet loss:
So it seems to me that Verizon service from the Long Island area to the rest of the world is back to normal. I'd still suggest your trying to saturate your upstream running multiple uploads at the same time to see what you can actually get through your pipe in the real world. |

| reply to Dark Knight I did a real quick google on "slow vista upload speed" and found it's a problem not unique to you. One post said quote: Did you disable IPv6 ? That's the FIRST thing to do with Vista. It wasn't a good choice for MS to have this enabled by default. Just like WirelessZeroConfig being setup for every XP installation.
Using Ubuntu and Win2K when I need Windows, so I really can't help much further than a google search. |

| reply to Dark Knight I have 4 computers (1XP, 3 Win7) that use Realtek chipset NICs. (3 wired, 1 wireless) I also have 3 Realtek chipset wifi usb adapters to play with.
When any given computer is connected with a Realtek NIC, the upload per connection is limited to around 7Mbps. I can still max the line by using multiple connections.
But if I switch the same computer to an Intel or RaLink chipset nic, I get my full 20Mbps upload on a single connection. (the RaLink's are wireless, so this isn't a wired v wireless problem)
Take that for what its worth, I haven't done enough testing to reach a definitive conclusion. -- Intel Q6600 @3400Mhz/GA-EP35-DS3P/4x 2048Mb G.Skill/WD Raptor 300Gb/3x WD20EADS 2TB/2x PNY GTX 260/Silverstone 850W/Custom water cooler |

| I am new to FIOS and have not tested extensively, but I see dramatic upload differences between Vista, Win7 and MacOS - all on untweaked systems.
Also a lot of variation between sites. FWIW, these two seem to agree...

I admit I have not run their tool, but speakeasy at least shows my d/l speed at 26,300. Makes me wonder about the Verizon test results! Should I try their tool? I am running XP Pro SP3. |
