2Wire Homeportal 1000HW Fuse replacement?

I'm told there is a fuse on the board. Does anyone have the location and spec of said fuse?

Why do you think you need to replace a fuse?

@cox.net
no power to modem. blinking light on AC power source. I'm cycling through the troubleshooting options, starting with the cheapest and most obvious.

Is your blinking light "RED"?

If so, check out this thread:

Even though yours is blinking. I doubt it's a fuse.

the light on the power source, not the modem is blinking.

Is this the original power supply or a replacement? If it is the original supply, does the 1000HW owner's manual tell what it means when the power supply light blinks?

What do you mean by power source? most 2wire power adapters don't contain lights.

power supply yes.... it's not the OEM power supply. 6V, 2mA. however, with a light. to indicate it's plugged in. When it's plugged into the modem, it blinks.

Dave, I can't find OEM literature on this model. and 2Wire Support told me to take it to the ISP, but it's not from an ISP.

Thanks for the answers and questions so far.... I'm afraid i'm not in a position to simply buy a new one for 50$ or whatever. I'm far more inclined to fix what i have at this point.

I don't know where you're located, but, around here, it is possible to find working, recent-model ADSL modems in thrift shops and other used-merchandise venues for between $1 and $5. No need to spend $50.

The weekend is almost here- check out some garage sales and flea markets.

i'm in SD also, but my money situation doesn't allow me to hunt and peck. THanks for the help again, anyone have a next step with my current hardware?

Unfortunately, since you are using a non-original power supply, even if you located the 2Wire owner's manual for your model, this wouldn't be of much help, since the manual isn't going to tell you what it means if the power supply light blinks (given that the original supply didn't have a light).

Not having the equipment in front of me, I can only assume that your power supply is defective and/or the modem itself is drawing too much current and overloading the power supply. Resolving either condition is very likely going to cost you more than a used modem from a thrift store (or some other locale). Definitely avoid Craigslist- the prices that people are asking for ADSL modems there are way out of line compared to what you can find elsewhere. I have seen ads there asking $60 for models that I have bought for MUCH less (and, yes, they all worked perfectly).

If you cannot afford to spend between $1 and $5, I don't know how you will be able to accomplish anything; even if what you have is repairable, you're going to have to pay something to get it fixed.

Even here in CT, one has been finding lots of second hand DSL modems and modem-routers in thrift shops. Latest finds of the gateways include a 2 wire HW 1000 for $2; Zoom X5 (older model) for $4. I've seen scores of Speedstream modems ranging anywhere from $1-3, depending on model. Once I saw a brand new Speedstream 6520 router for $7.50, unused and in box including everything. I snapped this thing up to use as a backup.

I believe using a non OEM power supply voids warranties, and odds of getting support after it's found out of doing so is remote at best.

In agreement, avoid Craig's list at all cost. There's too many over priced computer equipment on it. Last time I scanned ads out of curiousity there were people selling networking devices for higher than cost purchased at stores.
